PR - Privatize the government ...

Posted by: charliestumpy on 20 May 2005

This Newspeak Labour minority 20% UK government is well overdue implementing proportional representation as promised in 1997 manifesto. Everyone is supposed to work for pensions until they drop, and they now have extra 2 weeks holiday. I hope that Mr Blair's back is better soon, and he can start letting people join in governing a bit better - nationalize eveything, especially Manchester United.

Funny how no-one's proposed privatizing UK government ...

PR was a part of the Lib Dem manifesto, not Labour's.

The two major parties are never likely to want to change the status quo. The current system allows the government to govern without undue influence from minority parties and thus many people consider it to be far superior.

In 97 Labour said they would launch a project into PR - they never did.

Actually the Labour government promised a Review into PR for some Elections. This was done, Hence we now have PR for European elections, The Scottish Parliament, The Welsh Assembly etc. but no where in the Manifesto was there a suggestion of PR being introduced to the UK Parliamentry Elections. And certainly Labour and the Tories will never encountance such a change until there electoral base drops down to the numbers that the Lib Dems normally get and for a good number of years.

PR from either the Tories or Labour would be like turkies voting for crimbo.

I voted Lib Dem in the recent County Council Elections and Tory in the General Election.

Naturally, living in a Labour safe seat my vote was wasted in the General Election.

I'd NEVER vote Lib Dem in a General Election while their transport policy resembles that of Uzbekistan only with more modern technology to limit free movement...
