Which artists are you seeing in 2009?

Posted by: BigH47 on 10 December 2008

It seems to be that time of year when next years tours are announced. So perhaps a central spot to see who we've missed so far?
Our List so far
Richard Thompson January RFH
Jackson Browne
Aussie Pink Floyd
Ultravox in April
Jean Michel Jarre in May
Porcupine Tree in October

I have the tickets for next Monday's concert by James Taylor, at the Arena di Milano.
He's coming with a band, though I'd have loved to see him alone with Larry Goldings, as in One man band.

I expect an intelligent, very musical not so loud evening.

This is up next for me, Sydney Opera House, end of July:

Sergei Eisenstein’s 1925 cinematic masterpiece with a newly arranged score featuring symphonies by Shostakovich.

Eisenstein and Shostakovich were two of the greatest Russian artists of the 20th century but they never had a chance to collaborate. Battleship Potemkin is the posthumous synthesis of their work. It’s a revolutionary film set in a revolutionary time. In 1925, with his astonishing new montage technique, Eisenstein changed the art of film-making forever. It might be propaganda – it quotes Lenin, its sailor hero has an uncanny resemblance to Stalin – but the emotive power of this influential masterpiece is undiminished.

When this silent film was revived in the 1970s, Soviet musicologists made a soundtrack from Shostakovich’s Fourth, Fifth, Tenth and Eleventh symphonies. Now conductor Frank Strobel has created a brand new arrangement of Shostakovich’s music. At its heart is the formidable Symphony No.11 (The Year 1905), which Shostakovich wrote after an intense study of Eisenstein’s movie and which touches on the same historical events.

Hear Battleship Potemkin afresh with this definitive new score.

Just booked 2 gigs at the same venue Kings Place as part of a 3 day festival.

Sat 5 Sep @ 15.45 John Metcalfe presents... Music for the Afterlight - The Leisure Society

Sat 5 Sep @ 17.00 John Metcalfe presents... Music for the Afterlight - Clayhill Note: This could be Clayhills' last show, so if you are in London at this time, don't miss Gavin Clark & the band.

Both gigs are just £4.50 each (free posting from the box office) and are unreserved seats. The venue only opened last October and looks to have paid a lot of attention to the acoustics. Nearest tube is KingsX.

Adrian,

Thanks, just seen the gig on their home page. I might go, as the main act 'Portico Quartet' seem interesting. If you fancy the gig, I will definitely book. The other gig at the The Slaughtered Lamb on 6 Aug might get a visit from me.

Denis - I am up for the Portico Quartet and Sweet Billy Pilgrim. Portico are an up and coming UK jazz band that have been getting great reviews and awards - nominated for Mercury last year and Peter Gabriel has just signed them on Real World.

If you get the tickets then I'll send you the dosh. Let me know.

Cheers

We are going with Ray and Chris.

GG was a folkie but developed into an electric guitar wizz.
Theme song for Holiday Programme, Heartsong was his big hit.
I only have a best of the best album on CD IMO the best albums are the ones I have on vinyl, and he is not on spotify.
Coolham is a small village hall run by Jim and Norma, BYO drink and nibbles.
Big Jim Sullivan is/was a session player and has appeared on 1500+ records.
We have seen GG before there an intimate and enjoyable evening.
Give Norma a call if you want tickets, she knows Ray he's played there before.
