I did not bother. I have no interest in standing tickets in Hyde Park so I am going to wait for other dates to be announced, hopefully in a more comfortable stadium. If not I'll make a trip into europe to one of his other shows.

Not wishing to seem too obsessive, I have nevertheless just booked to see Emmy The Great for the 4th time. This time at the Glee Glub in Birmingham and a bargain at £7.50

Only concert booked so far is Bob Dylan in Cardiff - just figured that if you live in the same time period as Bob, you've got to see him.

And no doubt Francis Dunnery sometime, especially if the New progressives thing gets going. It would be great to see Francis with Steve Nardelli of The Syn again.

CB

Well, I'll be on the phone at 9am to buy my tickets for Quo at Hull on 19 Dec.

I won't be buying Van Morrison tickets at £200 a pop for the front row of the Albert Hall. That's a complete rip-off!

Just saw the Subdudes at Old Town School of Folk Musi in Chicago last weekend. Great concert in the best venue for listening to live music. Like having the concert in you living room. Saw the Cowboy Junkies last year-amazing show.

Just back from Richard Goode playing Chopin at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall. Considering he is one of the world's current foremost pianists the audience of around 200 was pathetic!

Don't understand it. A series of piano concerts in a Piano festival, well advertised, reasonably priced. I thought it would be packed out!

At the Sydney Opera House tonight:

Bach Voices

The Sydney Symphony presents the St Thomas Boys’ Choir of Leipzig.

The St Thomas Boys’ Choir boasts a direct line back to Bach. When Bach moved to Leipzig in 1723 he took charge of the school and choir of the famous Thomaskirche. This was the choir that introduced his cantatas and passions for 27 years and which remains the proud custodian of a continuous Bach tradition. The man in Bach’s old job, the ‘Thomaskantor’, is Georg Christoph Biller.

Like Bach, Telemann and Mendelssohn are closely linked to Leipzig – each composer lived there for a time and contributed to the life of this richly musical city.

For their Sydney debut, Biller and 65 boys and young men of the choir will join the Sydney Symphony in celebrating the Protestant choral tradition with psalms and motets. The mood is summed up in ‘Sing to the Lord’ – the psalm that Bach set three times and which in turn inspired the 19th-century Bach revivalist, Mendelssohn.

BACH Two Motets, including Singet dem Herrn, BWV225
TELEMANN and BACH Jauchzet dem Herrn alle Welt
MENDELSSOHN Four Psalms, including Psalm 42: Wie der Hirsch schreit

Georg Christoph Biller conductor
St Thomas Boys’ Choir, Leipzig
