To ERR is to CD 3.5

Posted by: Stephen Bennett on 05 June 2001

OK. My used CD 3.5 arrived today. It was well packaged and had the transit screw in. Loading a CD and pressing play gives me the ERR message. There's a 4 pin doobrie covering the 2 DIND on the back which I assume is right, leaving the last DIN for output.

Any ideas whats up?

has it got the magnetic puck that sits on top of the CD when playing?

Also try other CDs, I have quite a few that are a bit reluctant to play in both a CD3.5 and CDI.

Yep, the puck is there. Further investigation - the laser just 'clicks' when i press play or a CD is loaded. Bugger!

Aren't there two transit screws?

Thanks Guys. I spoke to my dealer (handy when you are old school friends!). I think it's knacked (he didnt even say 'I told you to get a new CD5'!). Time to contact the seller methinks

"My 3.5 only has one, to hold the tray in."

Mr Pig you seem to be making a habit of buying dodgy Naim kit.Better a sheep than a goat you know.

Jonathan

The newer models have a 2nd screw to hold the main PCB rigid during transit. Too much bouncing about can cause soldered joints to shear/snap.

Its located in the center of the floor panel. Pig has an old model. You and I have newer versions.

Surely it is lowering the tone to discuss the number of screws, rather than debating the quality of the puck.

Stephen

As your dealer is an old (good - presumably)school friend, why aren't you buying S/H via him?

Well that's alright then!

I just thought he might know of other customers who were looking to upgrade that he might have been able to put you in touch with.

Presumably the player's still not working? Any joy with the Seller?
