Hmmm.

A lot (well, comparatively) of threads being closed down lately.

Perhaps we should all take a few deep breaths for a bit.

"Who am I? Where am I? When am I?"

Good idea. Just don't ask 'Where do I come from'!

In all seriousness if a thread is going pear-shaped or getting personal it seems to me almost never does continued posting do anything other than pour petrol on the flames.

The antagonists, or more particularly the antagonised, should just stop contributing.

Yes, I agree with this. I made a decision tonight to leave the very contentious threads to other people.

All the best,

Contentious from time to time is good for blowing away the fuddt-duddy cobwebs, no?

Good idea, those who live by the contentious thread are banned by the contentious thread and after a while the contentious threads wither and die.

Indeed, I've had tremendous fun over the last couple of weeks but it looks like I'm in danger of falling foul of the "forum police". Mike L might sentence me to hard labour writing compulsory eulogies for Naim equipment in the "HiFi" section. Smile

(Mike in case you read this - there genuinely is no malice intended - I'm just making a joke)

I've been watching from a distance, all this, and I feel one of the most irritating problems in having several people called "Mike".

If Sniper turns out also to be a 'Mike' then I shall have to go get some therapy.

It's been a pleasure to read your polite and tautly logical posts.

You will be missed by the anti loons among us. Winker

Paul thanks for that,

I'm pleased that there are many people here that can recognise logic. I've found your posts hugely enjoyable (and very accurate and incisive). I shall still be reading the contentious threads and will be supporting the anti-loon brigade from a distance (maybe at some point I'll be back (as Arnie would say)).

All the best,
Trev

Which is the contentious thread? I don't read them all in any case! Sometimes I am completely out of touch with the majority of the forum!

No that was Friday evening! First time since Christmas! Two of us saw off two point seven litres of Wyborowa, and still were right as rain next day! Amazing and enjoyable conversation and a relaxation that makes me feel better than for months!

It should be taught at school. Wodka drinking that is. So many problems would soon take a better perspective!

Good debate can be robust, but should refrain from becoming an exchange of personal insults. It often seems to me that people find that difficult on a forum as you are dealing with words alone and the absence of tone of voice, body language and the immediate de-escalation of potential conflict that direct human contact can bring.

Then again some people are just arseholes!
