I saw the drive across the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the news last night. The car was bouncing around on the road surface. I assume they had the rideheight and suspension travel set at maximum.

The rules have changed a lot this year. A single set of tyres for qualifying and the entire race. They can only be changed if punctured or damaged so downforce will be 25 percent less than previous years.

Probably sand bagging - this is F1 after all. Also probably not a bad idea to get out in front with you excuses for when the red cars lap you and nearly everybody else.

Couple of 'stand out' points that hit me over the last couple of weeks - Frank and Patrick have between them had to sell a helicopter and a private jet because money's so tight. ROTF! Well, excuse me if I don't shead any tears or rush round with a donation to keep them afloat! Second thing is that the engines are now going to have to last around 900 miles before blowing up. Cor. If only all engines lasted so long. Yes I know it's the bleeding edge and all, that they're not 'real' cars, and that to be at the pinnicle of engineering excellence you design something with an exact operational life for best results - but come off it! Engineering excellence should produce engines that last a season...

Ah well. The circus is back in town. I'm looking forward to it. For all its faults and bullshit I have to watch. Still love it.

But you've got to laugh ain't you?

Cheers

A bit unfair to F1 Harry. The purpose is to win the season a race at a time so with good engineering the motors need to last exactly one race. I think the latest demands of the rules require massive overbuilding as it is.

Just wait til next year when they'll be building 2.4 V8s out of floppy metal and high C of G. Hope they sound good though.
As for the downforce.... end of this season they'll be faster still.
Next year will be different.

I'm looking forward to another season. I'm a Ferrari fan through and through.

Last year was great. The rules were changed partly to militate against Ferrari winning everything - but they still won. I'm waiting to see if they dominate again this year.

God it must take dedication to be anything but a Ferrari fan these days!

Sorry, that was an obvious troll...

You just need to be British and support the underdog.

Now that would be interesting! The gearing would have to change for one thing... (Jeremy Clarkson wouldn't like it.)

I've heard that the jet-boat enthusiasts in New Zealand have removed the governors from diesel ute engines, installed them in their jet-boats, and revved them up to 6000 rpm or more with no problems. Never been sure whether it was true or not.
