Free J***...

...going free

Anyone want a free copy of the ESP compilation contained within this months issue of The Wire?

Being an adventurous type, though never having given jazz much of a chance, I gave this cd a listen. Three tracks in I was trying to remove my eardrums with a rusty spoon.
Seems a shame to just chuck the cd away so it's free to the first to mail me:

cheers, and (happy?) listening,
Lee

ps played on repeat it may also be useful for keeping pests off yer veg patch

Classic free jazz a la Coltrane's "Meditations" isn't easy but can really repay the time and patience it takes to get into.

I don't know what's on this compilation, though; maybe it's not worth the trouble.

If I started listening to this the missus would have me carted off. Love Supreme is about as 'free' as I go!

With this month's issue of The Wire comes Faith & Power: An ESP-Disk Sampler. Drawn from the catalogue of the legendary free jazz reissue imprint, the CD contains 12 landmark tracks by artists including Albert Ayler, Ornette Coleman, Sun Ra, Patty Waters, The Velvet Underground and more

Dunno whether that makes it worth it or not, but there are a few 'big' names of jazz there I suppose...

They may be legendary but are they listenable?

If you havent heard Albert Ayler's "Spiritual Unity" in its all its heavenly glory you haven't lived. One of the greatest musical statements of the last century. I also love the Ornette Coleman Town Hall 1962, a work of genius. The Heliocentric Worlds Vol 1 and 2 by the mighty Sun Ra deserve a place in anyones record collection.

If anyone has any of the original vinyl I'll take them off their hands free of charge.
