Cambridge Audio CD2 (16x16)

Posted by: davewarehouse on 02 March 2004

Hi,
Does anyone have any info on the CD2 CD Player from mid/late 80s? I have searched online for a manual, and related service info to no avail. This rather special machine was well respected at the time, but shortly after, Cambridge Audio went into receivership, and the brand was sold to Julian Richer. The CD2 was the worlds first 16 bit 16Xoversampling CD player and still sounds very good today (assuming it still works!!) I have a few niggles with mine I would very much like to iron out. Maybe you used to own one? Prehaps you still do. Any info, links, an offer of an original manual...or any comparisons with more modern units would be most welcome. BTW Presently using with Sondex Amadeus Gold amp & SBLs, and yes, I know I need a better amp!!

I think I have one of these in the cellar. I'll check tomorrow for the manual. It was pretty good, but was eventually retired due to an intermitent fault that couldn't be repaired.

Dave

You have a pm - I still have my old CD2 lurking so I can copy the manual for you.

Mine got retired too after excessive hum from the transformer(?) although I never did try to get it repaired.

Dave,

I've checked and actually have a cd3 not a cd2. Let me know if it's of any use.
