I would be grateful for any help/advice.....what is the best sounding CDR discs .....I usually buy TDK recording media....they have consistently been the best over many years. Also, where can I get it/them easily?

Thanks

I just used Pricebusters at www.pricebuster.org.uk/WebPages/Pricebuster.htm
They delivered quite quickly and were the cheapest.I got the TDK d-view 700mb,which i have used before and seem very good,i also got a few packs of the TDK CD-RXG to try.
Here are some othe sites i looked at.

Hi Laurie !

Mitsui (silver or gold) and totally black Traxdata are fantastic. I have try more than 30-40 brands and find those two absolutely dominant.
I didn't hear any difference on copies made on these two products.
Just try, believe me.

The best that I've heard so far are some special Traxdata with a BLACK writing surface, which I got from BlankDiscShop.

Note, they're cheap, but no cases, no spindle.

Using a Yamaha recorder with a jitter reduction technology at 1x speed, these are the only that I've yet tried which come close to the real thing. In fact, I think the bass may be a little better than the original, but the upper range sounds a little restrained / rolled off.

I was very surprised when I heard these, as they are the first which make any approximation of the original.

The unbranded black discs from BlankDiscShop are OK, but not a patch on the Trax.

The ones I really want to try are Memorex black. These are reputed to sound better than the original.

cheers, Martin

P.S. whilst we're on this subject, I really have to sing the praises of the Yamaha CRW-F1 PC CD-RW.

It does faultless DAE at up to 44x, and is generally miles ahead of the Plextor & other brands I've owned in the past. It just feels bullet-proof.

The AudioMaster (AMQR) feature promises substantial jitter reducation, and in practice is a genuine advance in CD-R audio quality.

Ozren,

Have you tried the Memorex black?

thanks to the above, and any others yet to reply.
What about prices?

Any more than about £3-£4 per disc would not really make the recording exercise worthwhile.....if I really like an album I buy it,,,,I aim to do recordings for music that would be nice to have but am not utterly committed to

cheers Laurie S

PS.....do any of the "multiples" (Currys etc) stock any of these

Laurie,

checkout the links.

BlankDiscShop will do 25 of the Trax black for £4.75 inc VAT. (Postage extra).

What I really want is a stockist for the black Memorex.

Scans Black Memorex are 80 minute and with TDK I've noticed a definite deterioration with 80 min (compared with 74 min)CDRs. Is this the case with Memorex?

Martin !

No, I didn't tried Memorex, but it seems I should try soon.
I will write about it after.

Alex,

great, thanks, that;s the first I've seen.

I'd like to find a supplier with cheaper postage, though. Scan charge £10+VAT for an order of 20 discs or more. Might have to pay it, though.

Does anyone know of a supplier with cheaper postage?

cheers, Martin

Martin,

The Yamaha burner sounds good, specially if you rate it better than a Plextor.

Have you tried recording music at higher than 1x speed?

I still have an old yamaha scsi cd writer. As I usually record at 1x there does not seem much point in upgrading. But faultless high speed recording would be an incentive.

I and a few of my colleagues are in the opinion that there is no difference between one recordable disc and another, after all the disc only records zero's and ones. It would be interesting to know what the recording industry uses to duplicate there recordings on. The only difference in my opinion is the packaging. The same goes for minidiscs.

Raymond.
