The Queen's Birthday weekend

Posted by: Rasher on 24 April 2006

I wonder what it must be like to have a church service of thanksgiving for yourself at your own church in your own grounds, with invited family members to read out endless monologues of how wonderful you are.
Must be a blast. Sure knows how to have a good time.

BTW having spent long enough in a place distant from HM, it is evident that she has quite a following outside of the UK (perhaps even more so)... hence ditching the royal family might not be the wisest PR move for the sake of UK inhabitants.

I don't think usurping HM the Queen has ever been on the cards. The issue is whether old jug-ears should succeed her, or if it's time to call time on the Monarchy once Her Madge pops her clogs. Personally I think even that's a 50-1 shot.

I think HM will be around for another 20 years (like her mum) by that time I think Charles will stand aside in favour of William. I think that would be wise.

'Bout time you upgraed to a Linn, surely?

Dear Fredrik,

If that were the issue, I would probably vote for the Queen to. As I've said several times, she has done a very good job (and I cannot, off the top of my head, think of anyone better). The point is what comes next, and I don't believe they're aren't people who could do better than Charles.

Dear Erik,

Do you honestly believe Charles, having waited for the job all his life, is simply going to stand aside? It might well be wise, but likely? And, even if he did, what guarantee do we have than William will be any better?

regards, Tam

Yes i do think he would. He may well be a better man than some believe him to be. By the time the Army has matured William I think he will make a good man for the job. Never forget this, monarchy and it's subjects have a two way relationship - thus in some respects the monarchy is what we make it!

Good idea joe, but I fancy one of those clearaudio master reference jobbies with their acrylic platters etc. nicely lit by a halogen spotlight. I don't care if sounds better than a Linn, I just want to look at it.

I'm with you on that one. Who wants to listen to hifi when you can gaze in open-jawed wonder at the aesthetic wonder of it all?

There you go, I knew you would agree. I much prefer the looks of the Zanden CD player over the 555 and I could gaze open-jawed at it for hours. The Zanden tube amps are jolly easy on the eye too. I might add the transparent acyrlic horns made by Ferguson-Hill to complete the aesthetic wonder of it all. I'm not at all sure I would actually want to listen to it though.

Besides I would have to go out and buy some CDs and I can't really be bothered.
