How has the 52 been updated over the years?

Hi folks,

I'm about to upgrade my 82 to a 52, and have two choices:
a) a 1993 model with a control board, display panel update in 2001 (includes black snaic and burndy),
or b) a 2000 model

Obviously the newer one is dearer than the old one. Does anybody know whether there have been significant changes apart from the board updates over these model years. Unfortunately I can't audition the two options, so I am buying blind.

Cheers, Jens

The main upgrades were:

1. Supercap - sonic upgrade
2. Pots board - sonic upgrade
3. Black SNAIC+Burndy - interconnect upgrade
4. Front panel - To allow FLASH remote functionality, no sonic improvement

Check if the 93 model has had 1 and 2 done, also a recap is required at 10 years, check this too

Hi Grant,

You are right-Naim gear is hard to find in Perth. These 52s are not from here.

The 82 and a couple of hicaps will be made redundant by the 52, so if anybody in Australia is chasing these-send me an email.

I ended up choosing the newer 52. I figure that this will be my last ever preamp upgrade, so newer is better I guess, even if the two units would have sounded identical at this stage.

Cheers, Jens

Can someone add dates (year of change) for each of the 52 upgrades.

Thanks
