Runnicles Returns

Posted by: Tam on 26 April 2008

Thursday evening say Donald Runnicles' first appearance in Scotland since his 2006 Edinburgh festival performance of Bruckner's 6th symphony, as well as his first concert with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra since being named chief conductor from 2009. They played MacMillan's 3rd symphony and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde with Karen Cargill and Simon O'Neill.

The concert can be heard on Monday on Radio 3 and if this is a taste of what's to come when then I can't wait for next autumn. A full review will follow when I've had a chance to write it.

I'd also like to thank the orchestra's marketing manager, Stephen Duffy, for arranging for me to meet the conductor briefly afterwards.

Dear Tam

Thanks for the link to your reviews, which I find interesting and also well written. Your detailled description of Mustonen e.g. is really entertaining.

Dear Poul,

Glad to have provided some amusement. I have never heard anything like Mustonen - and I don't think I quite do him justice.
