Trying to identify AR amplifier

Posted by: monkfish on 17 September 2002

Hi
Do any of you knowlegeable chaps out there know anything about an integrated amplifier model No. A-04 manufactured by AR (Acoustic Research), who if I remember correctly used to make speakers and possibly a turntable. The reason I ask is that I have been offered one for 30 squids.
Thanks
Jim

One of my X wives bought one in the year 1989.
It works well these days too. It is also a nice looking one, you see only the volume control and all the other knobs are hidden.
She moved to a new appartment two weeks ago and asked me to set the system for her, and the amp works good.

AR brought out the A-04 in the late eighties. It was a budget amp, around £110 and up against Rotel RA820BX, NAD(3120?), Yamaha A320, Arcam Alpha etc. It was at the price point below Cyrus 1 and Creek 4040. I didn't really rate it, not very powerful, not musical. However for £30 you have a working amp you could use for background etc.
