VDGG UK Tour

Posted by: steveb on 11 April 2007

Saw the 3 piece VDGG last night at Wolverhampton, were excellent, coped well with no Jaxon. 2 hr set + 20 min encore.
Hammill on gtr for some tracks on others keyboards.
Made a wonderful racket!!!
World Record most represented album-When She Comes, A Place to Survive and Meurglys 111.
Also included Gog from In Camera in the set.
No darkness or killer for this tour.

I'm going to see them at The Barbican on Monday. Really looking forward to it now. I was a bit concerned about the lack of Jaxonsax. I guess it's more song based this time.

I've been listening to Real Time in the car today and reliving the RFH re-union gig.

Good to see that Peter (Hammill) has overcome his difficulties of the past years and is touring again. Great band, VDGG!

What a great racket that was! Hammill almost tempted to throw some poses when he was on guitar.

Shorter set than Wolverhampton (only Meurglys III from World Record probably accounts for it.)

Opened with 'Childlike faith...' then 'Lemmings' and allayed any fears about the saxless sound. I was impressed with 'Sleepwalkers' (probably my favourite VdGG song) they re-worked it incredibly well.

If Hugh Banton had any spare arms or legs I'm sure he'd play drums as well...

Glad you enjoyed them as well.
Sounds like a different set order.
Did they do Man-Erg?- at wolverhampton a glorious racket as Hammill and Banton pounded the keyboards.
Sleepwalkers is one of my faves as well and was well done.
I hope all this transforms to new recordings as Hammill has hinted at.
Hope they keep on touring-Hammill was so full of life, I prefer him like this than the introspective solo concerts.
Banton was brilliant- the "animal" of the keyboards.

Yes they finished with Man-Erg then enchored with Still Life. They played two brand new songs too both very different to the rest of the set and both very good which bodes well for the forthcoming VdGG album (should it ever see daylight).

Just like to mention that Guy Evans wasn't too bad either.
