The DVD5 will be at the Bristol Show next weekend. As for availability, in a few weeks.

Well I'm waiting with bated breath here in Los Angeles. I have a CD5/fc2. Today I went out and bought a cheap DVD then had to get an RF modulator at Radio Shack, plus cable and the player was only B&W with the screen rolling down constantly so I took it all back. I'm sure I'll have to get a new TV as mine only has one coaxial connection. Thinking about not getting aything till after next Christmas, I think I can hold off that long. Unless this new DVD5 is really great. Sigh! I have so much patience in some things and not enough for others....I want it now!

Any word on the new high defintiion TVs? Id really like an LCD if possible but being so new I wonder if they have really the quality or length of life in them. any info your guys hear on this subject?

Just thought of another question:
What PSU is going to be able to enhance the DVD5? Check at the show and let us Westerners know, Thanks.

Just want to know if I should put my FC2 on sale with my CD5 if I switch.

Wolf,

I e-mailed Richard with the same question as I have just sold my CD5. He told me to hang on to my FC2 as I would be able to use this to enhance the DVD player which I will buy when it is finally released. I presume, on that basis that a Hi-Cap or Supcap can also be used.

Thanks, I'll hang onto mine also. Don't know when I'll get the DVD5. I'm glad they will let us use the FC2 since an xps would be out of my range.

I did try this weekend to install a cheap DVD in to my system and it just made my old TV go bonkers. Don't know if it is the DVD player or the RF Modulator between DVD and TV. TV only has coaxial cable possibilities which requires the Modulator. I spent most of Saturday trying to get it to work. Just gave up and watched regular TV that night. wonder what problems I'd have connecting a state of the art Naim DVD to my old TV? Plasma screens are just too pricy right now, I'll wait a year or two for them to come down. but I want one!!!

Wolf,

Have a look at Sony Retro-LCDs. They are still expensive but cheeper than plasmas, wider (42" up to 60") but not that much flat (17" 3/4). US models are HDTV and have a DVI Input that should be perfect with the DVD5.

Unfortunately, while we wanted to include this, it's now unlikely to make the final spec as it added quite a bit to the final cost with only a benefit to a small part of the player.

Well I bit the bullit. I bought a cheap $50 DVD player from Radio Shack, CyberHome, to replace the malfunctioning one. It works great! It's only about 9" wide and deep, 2" high. I'm sure Naim will produce a superior product but my finances are challenged. The Beatles' Yellow Submarine looked great and picture was certainly crisp and detailed. Have not compared teh CD playback with my CD5 but will keep that piece of equipment.

Personally I try to steer clear of Sony - they're a bunch of tossers who try and belittle their customers to get out of meeting their warranty obligations.
