SolidSteel

Posted by: Bas V on 28 August 2001

Yesterday I bought a SolidSteel 5.5 with a big marple stone to place it on. It sounds so f#cking good! (excuse my language, I'm thrilled)

Don't buy any other rack, this is it. No fortune spent, "only" about 750 Euro for 5 shelves. Okay, I paid even less, but still it's terrific value.

Listen to one before deciding on a Hutter/Mana?fraim setup!!!!!!!!

That's all I wanted to say.

Hi Mathijs,

The marble stone is specially made for the rack. It's a bit darker in color and the same size as the top-plate of the rack. I haven't tested the difference (the guy I bought it from says it's night and day). Because I have a very poor wooden floor, it made sense to me it would improve the system a lot in my room. And it looks really great too! If you want info, mail Arthur at info@kingaudio.nl. This guy is totally into tubes and marble.
I would post a picture if I had one, but I haven't. You can see the rack at www.kingaudio.com but it's not a great pic. Feel free to come and see it yourself if you're around here sometime!

Regards, Bas

Hallo jongens,
Yes the Solidsteel is one of the best sounding and looking racks I've ever seen. I have just placed a order to the 6.3 At the moment I have the 5.5 but I replaced it for the 6.3 In the future i want to have two, but not the money at the moment to buy them at once. I believe we have all about the same set:CDX, 102 hi, 180, Cardas Quad 5c, EA 2 on solid!! Did one of you to listen to the cardas power mains and how do the compare to the orginal naims?
BTW, I cant believe people are buying a hifi rack with glass selves!?!?. Did you ever hear that?
Well happy listening!!

Solid Steel is an Italian company so replace .com by .it and you get to www.solidsteel.it

Ciao!

Willem

P.S. Question for the Dutch gang: I remember reading somewhere that you can fill the Solid Steel stands with sand or lead. Did any of you try this or discussed this with your dealer? Just curious.

Never heard of this Willem. Anyway, it sounds great straightaway. When you're in Holland, come and have a listen!

It has to be www.kingaudio.nl

But you can only see the stone under the rack, no other pics. I will borrow a digital camera soon and post some pics of my system!

Hi Bas,

I had a look at the Solid Steel website and found the following info in their Company Profile:

quote:
The spikes are removable to allow the frame to be filled with sand, lead shot or other similar types of damping materials. This provides further “solidity” to the sound.

Thanks for your offer. I would be interested to hear your system on the Solid Steel rack, but the problem is finding the time. I'm not so often in Holland and when I'm there the days are just packed!

Ciao!

Willem

P.S. My dealer is a Solid Steel dealer, but he does not believe in the benefits of stands, so he doesn't have any demo models available. I have the impression he has one traded in Solid Steel 5-series rack. I might ask him if I could try out that one, if he still has it. But first off to Greece (again)!

Well Willem, I'm sure that if you wouldn't like the SolidSteel rack, you'd be able to sell it in no time. Believe me, it's really worth it to try. And what's nice too, my girlfriend likes it (high WAF).

I do see the spikes can be removed. Maybe I'll try that when I have moved, it's nice it's not that heavy when transporting. The stone weighs about 40 kgs...

I think going to Greece comes just in time, I see some clouds over here!

This is not a problem. Just don't leave the rack outside in the winter. smile

My friend Paolo in Milan used to use these racks under his active Linn/Naim six pack isobarik system, and I have to say in all honesty they are the most dreadful things I have ever heard. They may have changed in their construction since I last heard them, but I'd rather have my equipment on quadraspire than that rubbish.

Paolo now uses Archidee (sp?) and Mana stands I think.

Hi Mathijs!

Aaaaarrrggghhh, the guy was in no hurry and I was to buy them within a couple of months... I don't like you Mathijs. You always have money first. No more hints from me ;-)

Congrats and enjoy them. BTW, I think I know someone for your stands. Please e-meil me if you want to get rid of them!
