50 Hz hum when TV is connected

Posted by: Surfing Alien on 12 November 2002

Hi all!

I am hearing a rather loud 50 Hz. hum when I connect my TV (Panasonic) to my NAC112. When I unplug my antenna cable the hum is completly gone.

Any suggestions on getting rid of the hum (keeping the antenna cable unplugged won;t do :-)

Thanx in advance!

Sounds like an earth loop. Is the ariel from a cable feed or directly from the roof? Cables (and probably satellite decoders)seem to have their own earth.
There was a thread on this a few months back and the soultion was an earth loop breaker that decouples the earth in the ariel feed.

Do you have an aerial amp or distribution amp in the system, possibly external?

The input comes via a cable system, so no antenna. The cable goed into my VHS and from there it's disttibuted via a splitter to the panasonic and a small tv set in the bedroom.

thanx,

Use a cable TV ground isolator. It is a 75 to 75 ohms transformer. It will solve the problem. It is very easy to find here (Radio Shack) and cost peanuts. Don't know in Europe.
This thing is mandatory in any system including a TV.
