What would be a good JJ Cale album to start with. Just been watching hom BBC4, very impressed, looks like someone I have been missing out on.
Thanks

Hello Gary,

This one's a good start. I also have 'Guitar Man'.

My favourite is Naturally, closely followed by Troubadour. Okie and 5 are pretty good too. Not too keen on Shades. I don't know his other albums.

Thanks Gary, I didn't realise he was on, so I have just switched on. I will record the repeat later.

Anyway, I would recommend "Troubadour" and "To Tulsa and Back", which I used on a Naim demo last week.

Always been a big fan of 'Really' - 1972-ish, essence of JJ.

Last night's documentary (BBC4 TV) on JJ was bloody superb.

His character and approach to performing his music is decidedly unique. He comes across a thoroughly nice and well grounded guy.

Great stuff.

John.

PS. As George said, that double compilation is a great place to start.

Notwithstanding this thread I'd completely forgotton about the documntary. Fortunately my better half put it on.

Entirely agree with John. What a great character!

Cheers

He is my all-time favourite muso. And totally unassuming. The documentary is available on DVD and I have watched it several times.
Also check out his album last year with Eric Clapton "The Road to Escondido", on which they bring out the best in each other.
If you only get one album go for the anthology 'Any Way the Wind Blows" a huge bargain on Amazon at the mo.

Amazon UK don't seem to be listing it now. 'Play' are, but I'd advise getting a USA manufactured copy if possible, for better sound quality.

Who cares? Big Grin

Just kidding! I still have every one of his albums up to No.10 on vinyl. Maybe one day I'll get back to vinyl replay, but for now CDX2/555PS and Hiline sound very fine to my ears.

Sorry about the duff info about Amazon John.
