Alison Moyet at RFH

Posted by: Dougunn on 17 May 2005

Did anyone here go?

She sang a song with the lyric "Mother I think you read me wrong" that was absolutely blinding.

Unfortunately this is not on any of her albums and I think (from Alison's mumbled on-stage introduction) may have originally been sung by 60's folkie Melanie.

Alison's version was however a total knockout and I am going crazy now as I have to have it (cue maniacal laughter!!!)

Can anyone here shed ny light . . .

Hi Doug,

The song was 'Mamma Mamma' - it is a real favourite of Alison's live set.

You heard right: Melanie, a US singer whose full name was Melanie Safka, recorded the original version.

Alison has not studio-recorded a version of it but it is highly likely it will feature on the forthcoming DVD of One Blue Voice, which Alison is recording Monday 6th June.

Hope this helps

Many thanks! I've been going crazy trying to find out more about this.

I'll have to buy a DVD player now as I have to have that song!!!!!!!

Did you see her at the RFH too?

LOL, Doug - yes I saw her at the RFH and a "few other dates" on tour.

I can also confirm that Alison has recorded 'Momma Momma' for the DVD which looks like it will get a September release.

It turns out that Alison enjoyed the Royal Festival Hall concert as much as we did - she has just posted about her views of the tour on Alison Moyet's Tour Debrief

Thanks for flagging the AM forum . . . it's great to get feedback from a performer like that!

I can't wait for the DVD, although I'm worried that the 'magic' that was at the RFH won't be there.

But I live in hope . . . .
