Peter Case

I bought this guy's eponymous debut album around 86 and the follow up 'Man with the blue.....guitar' in 89. Both are absolutely superb. Countryish ( Americana??) in the style of Ry Cooder and John Hiatt (Both of whom appear on the albums). I then bought the third 'Six pack of love' which was very disappointing.
I gave up on him after that, but he has continued to release a steady stream of records since that time. Can anyone recommend any of his other albums which bear a similarity to the first two.

Malky,
I am in the same boat as you. I have a friend who has purchased or heard all the subsequent albums and the verdict would appear to be, however harsh, they would make a reasonable compilation but not much more. A source of considerable frustration. I saw him live (and have a tape) at the time and whilst he meandered terribly he also did the best version of a Van song I have ever heard (Lonely Sad Eyes) and it's always seemed a big loss to music to me that he almost willfully hasn't delivered on those first two albums.

Torn Again is the only one I have (though I did once hear the early stuff) and it gets an airing from time to time - a solid set of songs well performed with a couple of highlights.
AMG seem to like it too.

I've been searching for a copy of his first album (on CD) for some time. I just love the song "Walk in the Woods"

Just managed to replace my knackered old cassette version of the first album on CD. Rarely available on Amazon, I was lucky. It arrived this morning and I've just given it a spin, glorious.
Mike, it really is proof of an unjust world that talent like this goes largely unrecognised whilst boring and predictable stuff as characterised by Ch.4 100 best albums gets played to death. BLT, keep searching (2nd hand on Amazon from time to time), its well worth it.

I tried once on Amazon, but with no success, I guess I should try again.
Talent is never a gaurantee of success - that is why I am where I am today

I gave also gave up on Peter Case around 89 but the first two albums (both vinyl) are still played regularly. After a recent outing of the first album I got curious about what happened to him and - after reading a few online reviews - got Torn Again - which seems to be by concensus the best of his later work. I got the album through Djangos.com and they seem to have all his back catalogue in stock

Finally managed to get a copy of the first album off Amazon

I've been looking for ages so I'm well chuffed.
