Just bought a Rega planar 25...is it just my imagination or is this one of the best source components available for the price? Smile

Rega Elys. I know there's better but it's keeping me happy for now.

I won't talk about phono stages like the Tom Evans, which lifts this turntable to super stardom above all others, but will admit that the Rega 25 is one hell of a deck if you remove those Naim phono stages for something truly good, like the.T..E..arghhh

Let me know when you're in (I'll be working in London soon, after 9 Hampstead years of living just down your road) and I will phono stage your performance beyond belief.

Your other-half will approve.

Currently using a MF x-lps that I recently bought second-hand off of ebay Eek Isn't the TE stuff - like - really expensive? I think I'm probably, after my fairly recent (re)conversion to vinyl, better buying more records...and I'm only using an Elys so not much point having megabucks phono stage with a £90 cart I wouldn't have thought.

Oh yeah, one thought - Camden is full of s/h record shops Big Grin

No, Bob has a better TT.

James

James,

Possibly he does (although LP12s - like just about every Linn product I've heard - do nothing for me). However, I did say quite clearly one of the best source components available for the price.

A decent LP12 on ebay - last time I checked - was around £1000. My P25 was £500 brand new Big Grin

P25 does a really fine job, as well as Naim Stageline, it seems a really good match for the Rega.

I heard a p25 with a Super Elys and whilst it wasn't 'refoined' it suire did boogie.

I'll pass you the sand paper if you don't like that. Even help a little with the application of it Big Grin

I used to own a P25/Elys turntable but I sold it to pay the taxman and also because I felt that my CDX did a better job when making direct comparisons between vinyl and CD copies of the same recording.

However, as I understand it, the new owner is very happy with it (he changed the cart.)

You can view it here

Steve.

Go listen and figure, but a good phono stage is the biggest source upgrade you can make.

Currently my CD5 still - surprisingly for me and against most of the advice I've had - slaughters the P25 (although not as much as it slaughtered the P3) even with brand new high quality vinyl...
How much is the microgroove plus?

actually I should have said CD5 + FC2...don't know about bare CD5. To be honest the CD5/FC2 combo isn't at all bad!

I have a P25, Stageline and a dynavector cart. It sounds fantastic, and puts my CD player to shame. I'm sure it could be improved upon, but for now, its excellent.
