When will serial numbers pass 200000?
Posted by: Shayman on 07 October 2003
Just wondered if Naim were there yet.

Just for herm then:
We're on the cusp of passing 199,000 so won't be long before we pass the 200,000 mark.

OK. What product should carry the 200,000 serial number?

If you could just attach it to the NAP250 I ordered today that would be lovely thanks.

I think it would be a very nice gesture if Serial No. 200000 was a CDS3 and offered as a prize in a free draw for all contributors to this forum providing they buy a £5 ticket, proceeds of which to go to charity - what a piece of promo that would be - wotcha think Richard???

I just wish this thread could be pasted over on the Permanently F****** Moaners (PFM) forum.
Those peasants just go on slagging off Naim and forecasting its demise and here we are with serial number 200000 coming up.
Just shows quality always wins through.

Mick,
you know I always agree with you, and I'm totally into this stuff too, what with two Naim sistems. But there's a little problem with your line of reasoning.
McDonald's sells 200.000 Big Macs a day. That doesn't mean it's better than a good restaurant. It's just bigger.
Richard, please: you owe it to us to tell us when nr 200.000 is minted, and what item it is. Let's throw a party on the forum.

What product carried the 100,000 serial number?
What was number one? or did Julian start at 00?
Did they start numbering right away?
My vote would be for the NAP 250 but they really must do a gold plate on the thing. And then there's the enshrinement...

Mick,
Your post above does rather try to tar all contributors on PFM with the same anti-Naim brush. From what I've read over there (and contributed to!) your comments are far from being justified.
As PFM is an independent non-manufacturer sponsored forum, you must expect all views to be expressed, even those that you strongly disagree with and which might result in a lifelong ban over here!!
I'm sure it was meant lightheartedly, but by making the comment above, you're only falling into the trap of doing what you condemn others for doing on PFM.

Just read some of the recent postings on the last HIfi exhibition. There are a bunch of rejects who delight in devoting 100% of their acid comments towards Naim.
I think that the "modding fraternity" are the gun makers leaving the others to fire the bullets.

I never said all modders slagged off Naim but it is certainly becoming quite a little hobby over there.

Mick,
I have no interest in turning this thread into a review of threads in another place. Personally, having been to the Heathrow Show (which I'm not sure you attended) I think the general criticism of system performance there (Naim included) was probably justified. Quite clearly leaving the transit bolt in the CDS3 didn't help, but many other makers also got flak, not just Salisbury. IMO the best sound was in the Marantz room and pound for pound the New Nait5i and CD5i - need I say more?

Just to let people know, 200001 is an XPS2, and it arrived in West Wales today and is feeding my CDX2 and it sounds great.
