CD2

Posted by: Guido on 30 November 2003

Hello All,

my first post in a long time.
Everybody is fine, I hope!
After going through a couple of system changes in the last 1 1/2 years, I downgraded from CDI/102/hi/psc/180 - Cabasse Fregatte to Marantz Cd 67 OSE/62/Snaps/110 Cabasse Goelette.
In the meanwhile the system has changed to Marantz cd 67 ose/112/Hi/140/SBL. Record deck didn't change in the whole time.
As the memories of the CDI never faded, I know that the Marantz can be bettered Wink.
And here is my question:
Where to put the CD2 into the equation?
Funds do not allow to buy anything new or newish. I tried the CD3 for a couple of weeks but sold it as I couldn't get along with it.
Now there is the opportunity to buy a s/h CD2, built in 1998 for reasonable money.
Should I go for it?
How is it compared to the CDX or CD5? And the CDI?
What would be a reasonable price to be paid?
Looking forward to your replies
Regards
Guido

Hi Per,

yep, the Cabasse are quite efficient (93db) but I had still the CD3 when the SBL arrived (system being 112/hi/140 now) and it was (compared to the Marantz) not that far away. The bass being a bit leaner and more controled but more shouty (and even metallic in the mids) and unfriendly. Especially not so well mastered music was much less enjoyable.
So I will live with the Marantz untill funds allow a real upgrade.
Thank you, John, I learned that this CD2 was on the high side (815 GBP).
It's difficult not to make sidesteps...
Could listen more to lp in the meanwhile Wink.

Guido

PS: Per, you didn't live long with the 102 you bought from me, did you?
