Sorry for the late heads up but for those interested, Robert Plant's BBC Electric Proms Live show at the Roundhouse is playing live from 8:00pm on Radio 2.

A few comments about it on the 'What are listening to now thread'. Most not very complimentary, especially mine.

I'm not so sure. The show will be broadcast on Beeb 2 tv in a week or two's time. I'm certainly going to give it another go - I thought some of the tracks were brilliant, including the slightly different renditions of Zep tracks. Just remember, it's not Led Zep and he's definitely not purporting that it is.

Hope you're right, Peter, will try to catch it on TV, but, for example, Misty Mountain Hop was changed almost to the point of being unrecognisable. It wasn't LZ, neither was it Raising Sand or The Strange Sensation. Really wanted to like it as the clips on his site did nothing for me.

My problem isn't it not being Led Zeppelin, it is just I don't find anything appealing in this band.
I am comparing it to Strange Sensation though, and it certainly is not that. 'Dreamland' was a fantastic album, 'Mighty ReArranger' pretty good, they were fantastic live.
He is following his love of county blues, and that is fine, but it is a journey I don't want to go along on. Fine if he and others do want to follow that, but there is also nothing wrong with it leaving you cold.
I do have a problem with hims claiming it is 'bluegrass', it just isn't folky enough for that, bring on Doc Watson for that.

I thought the gig was fantastic, FWIW.
Last night's "An Evening with Robert Plant" on BBC2 was absolutely riveting.
Full marks to the man for not standing still - you're bound to lose a few on the way when you do. It's an interesting contrast with Jimmy Page, who still doesn't seem to have come to terms with the - admittedly gigantic - legacy of the Zep Era. Plant understood very quickly that he would - at the tender age of 32 - never do anything as significant again, and, rather than trying to replicate his achievements with Zeppelin, seems to have undertaken a remarkable journey to try and understand those achievements.
And IMO it's been as enjoyable and as fascinating for the listener (with the possible exception of his early 80s stuff) as it has been for Percy himself.
A great artist, I think.

Just watched the RP show on the red button, interesting and better than most seemed to be saying. I'm not a huge fan of his solo work,Raising Sand was fine though.

We saw him in Belfast last Tuesday, which was excellent sound wise compared to the Beeb show. The instruments seemed muted especially Buddy Millers guitar,( in fact the whole show seemed muted)just didn't come across on TV.

Some of it I found "interesting" but overall the Roundhouse concert was enjoyable. It may have been the sound mixing but the lead guitarist was more than a little heavy handed at times. The early '80s stuff was verging on excruciating at times - something he delicately talked his way around!
