Snooker match fixing! Shock Horror!

One question,

If the targets were afeared for their lives, i.e. Russian Mafia etc. why did THEY not report it straight to Mr. Hearn as soon as they got back to UK?

Off point, but why do all snooker players wear black shirts these days?

What a sad story, he is a great player, would be a real shame to throw your career away like this. Frown

It always seems to come down to money, sadly.

Ive met John Higgins senior at the Crucible several times and seems a very nice normal guy. He has tried to keep his sons feet firmly on the ground and remain level headed but with reports that John likes a drink too many and now this scandal he will be livid with Jnr.
IF he has done wrong then he is a very silly boy indeed and may have chucked it all away.
One things for sure Barry Hearn wont stand for this shit tarnishing the image of a great game that hes trying desperatly to promote to the far east etc.

Stephen Lee is also under investigation as well as 2 other unnamed players......Its starting to stink badly.

If it turns out to be true it will hurt snooker badly. Frown

I received the following text message at 4pm on Sunday:

Sources close to John Higgins have revealed that he will hold a press conference once he has met with his advisor, Mr Steven Gerrard.

Made me chuckle.

Regards,
Steve.

Just saw this thread. What a reality shock..!! I really like watching snooker now and then.

The skills, game/tactics, ambiance, commentary: theraputic and entertaining, what a shame this presumed non-evolving-surtainty-in-life also is infected with modern day greed and corruption. The previous biggest (bearly copable) change in the world of snooker was the arrival off the new ms referee, hormons -who where normaly in zen mode- didn't mind watching the game, between shots ;-)

What's next?

Its not the first time that snookers been through this sort of thing and it probably wont be the last unfortunately.....just googled snooker match fixing and Quentin Haan was banned in 2006 for the same thing.
Higgins is saying that others have ruined his reputation Eek and will fight the allegations stating that he was in fear of his life Roll Eyes and that he felt that the russian mafia were behind the sting and that he would have agreed to anything to get out of Kiev. hmmmmmmm that doesnt account for John higgins manager having 3 seperate meetings with the same people in Edinburgh in the weeks leading up to the pair flying out to russia ?? Hes caught bang to rights and should just accept the punishment and stop trying to make the public look stupid.
IMHO Red Face

So, John Higgins feared for his life because he thought it was the Russian Mafia. Did it not occur to him that if he "told them what they wanted to hear" so he could get out and later renaged on the deal they wouldn't be best pleased and he'd end up in a worse situation?
It does seem like he's grasping at straws. If I were Barry Hearn I'd give the guy two choices. Either own up to the allegations and receive a ban or contest the allegations with the proviso that a guilty verdict results in a life ban.
Regards,
Steve.

I tend to agree Steve and i do think he has made things worse for himself by coming out with absolute crap.
