Uniti re-initializing when streaming with symbols in title..
Posted by: Zdenek Zapletal on 13 October 2009
When I stream songs into the Uniti and they have certain symbols ( & * or umlauts etc) in their title, the Uniti does not play the song, it just goes back to re-initialize the input and I have to choose the drive, artist etc all over.
The Uniti also plays the songs from the highest # to lowest... which makes listening to classical music impossible.
Has anyone experienced the same problems?
Thanks
Nick

Oh yea never saw the symbol.
The uniti can only display how the server has sent it.
PlayBack UPNP sever for instance uses the spotlight indexing of OSX to create the lists, this is always in alphabetical order so thats how they appear on the unit. This can be fixed in the app.
The OP needs to tell us what server he is using, as it is the server that will cause this

Thanks for the replies. For example: Beethovens 5&6 symphony will not play. If I remove the "&" then it will play. Also the tracks play from track 4 to 3 to 2 to 1. I have tried two different servers. One is just XMBC serving the music in the i-tunes folder. The other is NAS (WD) loaded with the music from a McIntosh MS300 server... Either way, the Uniti plays the titles from highest track to lowest track..

Hi Zdenek,
Thanks for your report on your playback issue. From what you have described I think there are two issues:
1. The track sequence in the embedded track metadata, in the original files exported from your media server that ripped the music have been written incorrectly. This is making the UPnP servers sequence the tracks in the wrong order.
2. There is potentially a compliance issue with the file format with the way metadata is written and this is causing Uniti (or UPnP server) to reject the file.
The actual metadata extraction is done by the UPnP server and on our test systems reserved symbols like &, % etc. all show correctly on the front panel from the apps you have listed, so I suspect it is the original file formats that are causing problems.
Could you contact the Naim helpdesk and what would be most appreciated if you could supply two contigous tracks from the same album (eg. track 1, track 2) that is suffering from the two faults described. Please clearly mark what is track 1 and what is track 2. We will then analyse the content of the files and hopefully will be able to see what is going on and then be able to advice you.
With regards

I am quite speechless and actually I am looking around to make sure I am not in camera ready to be "punked"; living in Florida US, I am definitely NOT used to any kind of customer service..... so this is a most welcome surprise Steve. I will call and supply a couple of tracks (short ones for uploading expediency) as you suggested. By the way Naim, this simple reply is the kind of detail that may have just made up my mind to go ahead, and of all my choices, order the Naim NAP 300 amp!!!
Thank you Steve.
