Nait 3 + ???
Posted by: Michal_G on 11 May 2003
Hi lads! I have recently bought a used nait 3 and I am very pleased with it. Now, the time has come to replace my source (Onkyo 722+ audio alchemy dac-in-the-box). I am considering Cambridge audio D500 SE. What do you think about it. Have you heard such a combo? What are your suggestions?

IMHO the NAD C541i is a decent player for the money. If you are not (yet) running your NAIT with a *Cap you might find the NAD's lack of harshness quite attractive. You might even be lucky enough to find one one the 2nd hand market.
You could also consider a 2nd hand Rega Planet.
Best regards,
Oliver

If your considering the second hand market then try and find a second hand Roksan Caspian CD player. For the price they are excellent.
If not then there is always the Marantz range. I had one of there special editions which cost about £300. Excellent dynamics for the price.

I had a Cambridge Isodac on my system for a time. It was ok.
Definitely I would got for a Rega Planet or 3.5 (depending on budget). The rega is boxed and mint should hold it's value well... and will cost about half a 3.5 so it could be worth it as an intermediate step. I would be loathe to encourage you to stay at the Rega step!
I wouldn't really bother changing your system if you can't go for either of these if you are a "Naim Fan"
The Nad player mentioned is good but it's not naim - I think that if you heard a Naim system and loved it... you might be a little dissapointed with that.
I think the Caspian CD player is muchous different to the Attessa but I'm not a huge fan of the latter. Still I'll withhold my judgement on NBs ideas.
