The Stig

So with the revealing of The Stig's identity, does this mean a new Stig?

Is Ben out of a gig?

It has been known for years that the regular Stig was Ben. His driving style was the main giveaway. So hopefully it'll make no difference.

Was it ever confirmed that MS and others were guest Stigs?

If its like the last stig he will be killed off and hopefully a new one will be brought in.
Not knowing who the stig is has always been the excitement of the show

How was the Stig's identity revealed? I thought that this season was over about 3 weeks back.

That lap that Schumi did in the Ferrari (FXS?) was epic.

I don't think Ben Stig would have nailed the lap as well as MS did.

The red tops revealed his identity a few weeks ago and now Ben Collins aka the stig has got a book out [ autobiography ] and the publishers obviously
want to cash in, also Collins is reported to be not happy with his payment per show of JUST £10 grand. Not bad at say six shows = £60 grand for a few days work

Frankly, who gives a monkey's.

The whole show needs a new look. What was once something a bit new and refreshing has become tired and predictable, it's now just a sort of motoring 'Last of the Summer Wine'.

I agree with JWM, what was must see has become mundane. I'll watch bits that my son says I'll enjoy. This is usually Stig's laps, or Captain slow doing ludicrous speeds in a Veyron etc.

Most petrol heads were pretty convinced it was Ben as Stig almost from day one.

At the end of the day everyone gets loads of publicity and some one gets a job as the "new" Stig.

I think his company accounts showing a regular income from the Beeb had more to do with it...

PMSL excellent.

You may be bored with it, but we love it. Watching Top Gear is the one thing that my 15 year old, my 20 year old, my wife and I do together, that everybody enjoys. It is the best thing on TV at our house.

Very true. Haven't tired of it yet. Now enjoying 5-6 year old reruns from the period before BBC America started broadcasting them regularly. I think they're calling them the "lost episodes". I have regular Saturday breakfast with friends. Often the conversation starter is "did you see the latest Top Gear"?

Its very tired now, the set pieces well they are not even trying now, no one on the show is, its like a parody of itself.

Well I am now boycotting Harper Collins - and they will suffer.

I think what that "expletive deleted" has done is completely reprehensible.

Clay, Skip,
Wait for the US version that's due to come out next year ...

My hopes are not awfully high ...

No argument here.

Top Gear has to be among the most distinctive UK exports, right up there with Naim Audio, John Lobb, and Range Rover. I think compared to the US alternatives for all four, Top Gear would be the most difficult to knock off.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way about it. Its like a kind of pantomime (ie scripted with a bit of slapstick) with cars with a chunk of Clarkson's old cancelled chat show added in the middle to dag it out to a full hour. I do still watch it but only on iplayer so I can skip the boring bits!

It is a great show and i love it. One of the very few that I follow regularly. Still, the comments of "the show needs a new look" are valid. I have memorized the show's segments as follows:

1- Goofey introduction
2- Testdrive of a great sports car...... but in the final minute, another better car comes along to stomp all over it.
3- The stig lap in the car above
4- Assignment special
5- "The news"
6- Celebrity in affordable car
7- Completion of the assignment
8- Emotional outro

The guys are great and funny. The cinematography and production looks gorgeous. Let's do something a bit different though for the next season.
