SNAIC question
Posted by: Laurie Saunders on 05 January 2004
I have raised this issue before, though I still have one or two concerns regarding a SNAIC carrying power and signal in close proximity.
I note from the FAQ section on this site that the issue of power/signal intermodulation is dealt with by asserting that the DC power produces a constant magnetic field, and will thus have no inductive effects on the signal conductors
I understand that the magnetic field created by the power supply current, which is DC, should not modulate the signal, as the magnetic field is constant(?) (is it?...or does the power supply current fluctuate with the demands of the signal, however good the regulation?)
My main point, though is: will the signal current (which IS AC) not modulate the power supply current, which by implication will also lead to signal distortion.
It seems to me, unwise to route power and signal cables together...are the reasons for not seperating them based more on ergonomics/connectivity, rather than sonic performance?
I also note that advice is given to run the 52/scap Burndy and SNAIC as close as possible.......is this to avoid an "earth loop"..are the intermodulation risks here the same as above?
Any ideas?
