Are we assuming your front end is fully spec'd?

Simon:
Yes. Although some may disagree with my choices the LP12 has Lingo I, Linto, Ekos 2, Arkiv B. It would be possible to replace the Lingo 1 with Lingo 2 and Arkiv with Akiva but IMO these can wait right now.

Tom:
Stands are a mix of 3 SO tables (original 2 tier for amps) and a dedicated LP12 stand (Audiotech). Nothing really special.

I know I always say this, but if you listen to the Akiva vs. the Boron, the latter will sound broken.
Thats why I bought one.

Derek:
Both the Lingo2 and Akiva are on my future upgrade list. I am expecting improvements with both over Lingo1 and ArkivB. I didn't know that the output of the Akiva was higher again than the ArkivB (which was quite a bit higher than the ArkivA). Does the new Akiva overload the lower setting on the Linto? Anyone using Akiva/Linto?
Derek, did you try the T-Kable on its own to compare?

Nothing except buy some more music
Tom:
Actually this is probably the right answer in most situations but I have over 7000 lps now and still buy more every month. The greatest problem now actually is storage room for my lps.
As for the mains, this is a priority once I have moved which will be taking place within a few months.

Derek:
Last time I checked with my dealer, the Akiva was still unavailable here. None had arrived at his dealership although they were on order. Apparently in very short supply. However, I am hoping it will arrive sometime this fall.
I also have plans to try the Lingo2 at home ASAP. Does the Lingo2 use the same interconnect as the Lingo1 (are they interchangeable or does it require LP12 surgery to make the change?).

Lingo 2 works with Lingo 1'ed LP12.
When I replaced mine some time ago the dealer just left the old board in my LP12.

Checked again today with my Linn dealer. Both Lingo2 and Akiva are now available. Unfortunately the Linn tech (who has tuned my various LP12 tables since 1978) is retiring (sadly, I learned that he is recovering from a heart attack). That means, at present, there is no-one to set up and install the Akiva within 600 miles. The Akiva will have to wait until this is resolved. However, I will borrow a Lingo2 shortly to see what it does.
It is quite clear from the poll results that most who contributed feel that adding Fraims would be the best upgrade. Despite this, I intend to investigate the 135s and SL2s first and will borrow both from my Naim dealer shortly for a home demo. I will only borrow two 135s and use my existing 250s as 125s. Can anyone advise if special cabling will be necessary for the 250s connected to the Snaxo in a 4 pack arrangement such as this?
Paul
PS In an idle moment as I was scrolling through this thread I noticed that all of my postings for this topic were numbered 355. Have I entered the twilight zone of posting numbers? Not that it really matters.
PPS Just looked again and everyone seems to be frozen on this thread (posting numbers that is). Wonder if that is true on every thread? The horror!! Now I sound like I am concerned. Must get some sleep.

Paul,
no question, for me.
Fraim will do something fundamental to your system by organising all the musical threads (and a lot more besides).
None of the others will do that.
cheers, Martin

Paul,
it's also worth investigating the LP12 on Fraim.
It's reputed to be a very good match.
cheers, Martin

Paul,
I agree with Martin - try the Fraim, from what I have heard it is a fundamental improvement that will help the whole system.
regards
Dev

A Fraim should give some worthwhile benefits to your electronics but I'm less convinced of its efficacy under an LP12 - at least when loaded with amps. I bought a Fraim in preference to upgrading the 250 to 135's but prefer Mana for the TT.
If you are up for spending serious money I think you should check out passive with a 300.

Steve

Yeah, sorry, should have made that plain.
Advice for an LP12 seems to be a base, and two levels on top of that. LP12 on the top layer (of course), and nothing on the intermediate layer (and leave the glass off, too).
Hell of an investment, though! May be best to leave that LP12 on the Audiotech!
cheers, Martin
