Does anyone here speak Swedish, Danish or Norweigan?
Posted by: Paul Hutchings on 01 January 2006
If so could you please help me? I would like to get one of these:
http://www.biltema.no/products/prod...p?iItemId=98894
That's the Norwiegan site, the Swedish/Danish sites can be reached by simply changing the URL to read biltema.se or .dk
I don't understand enough to work out if they do online ordering and if so what shipping to the UK would be etc.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
cheers,
Paul

No, but I intend to learn. Sweden or Scandinavia generally is a place I'd like to live when I finally jump off the sinking ship of England. Trouble is, I find studying languages almost unbearably tedious.
That link doesn't work by the way - page unavailable.

Paul,
Like Nime said, the link don't work. What are you looking for? I've lived in Sweden for the past 15 years and have more or less grasped how these people communicate
From what I can see, it is not possible to order on-line (Via the Swedish site at any rate) Which surprises me slightly since they are a mail order company, albeit with walk in stores scattered around. Don't know if they have changed there sales strategy recently, but I have ordered stuff by post in the past.
Why not ring or mail them:

I can offer a decent translation but placing items in the basket produces no reaction from my machine. There are no links on the webpage you have provided. Sorry.

Also had a lot at the website.
Looks like you only can do the purchase in the stores.

Damn and blast you spot what you want and there's no way of getting it online.
Thanks all.
David, I shall try emailing them - would you expect the average Swedish customer services department to speak English as frankly I don't stand a chance otherwise!
cheers,
Paul

Paul, all Swedes speak embarrassingly good English. You should have no problems.
Keep your english simple and make sure to clarify anything that could be interpreted in more than one way.
FYI -
mail order = post order (Post pronounced as in lost, NOT as in toast)
transport/delivery = frakt (Pronounced as in fact, but with the 'r')
Let us know how you get on !

Thanks David. It might seem a bit of a strange thing to want to go to such lengths to order - all I can say is that there is little equivalent in the UK other than "professional" versions that cost around £200.
£22 vs £200 and even if postage is the same again you can see why I'm interested in trying to source one from there.
Anyway, email sent, we shall wait and see.
cheers,
Paul

Paul,
A couple of thoughts.
1.) Mail order, why not ? In Sweden, it is very common to place 'mail orders' (or order via the Internet) whereby the goods are sent by the equivalent of the Post Office 'Cash on Delivery.' You pick up your box of goodies at the nearest PO outlet (Could be a Petrol Station, Supermarket or whatever.) paying on the spot. This saves the company selling the cost of credit card processing, but adds the risk of things being ordered and never picked up. Could explain why Biltema don't mail order.
2.) If it turns out that it is company policy not to mail order, it could still be worth contacting one of the stores directly to see if they would take a telephone order and factor in the cost of shipping.
3.) If all else fails, there may be a Naim forumite who lives near a store and who could shop and ship for you. I live about 600km north of Sundsvall which would appear to be the nearest Biltema store so you will have to rule me out...
