Theatre of Hate

Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms, 28th April. Last time I saw them must have been about 1980 at Brighton Top Rank - the bouncers took everyone's studded belts away. God knows what they'll confiscate this time - Well Man pills, heart rate monitors. Still, I'm sure it will be fun.......... See you there.

Blimey Nigel is Kirk Brandon still alive? Is ex-Thompson Twins drummer Chris Bell still playing for them? Memories, I had a few, but then again, until dementia...

Wow - this all takes me back a bit! Loved them at the time, didn't know they were still going. Just seen they are on in Manchester on Thursday but 2 days after my hernia op might be a bit soon for me. Frown Frown
But..........'Legion', 'Original Sin' all over again..........

Well....... the main problem was that we arrived at 9pm and ToH were not due on till 10.45. The first support act we saw were complete crap, though the second were better. By 10.45 Hilary was well pissed off. Roll on the smoking ban I say!!

But ToH were very good - it's incredible to hear the songs again, and as you say Original Sin and Legion had to be the high points.

I loved them back in 82, when I was 21, but now I'm 46 I have to say I'd prefer to see Stacey Kent, or perhaps an evening of Philip Glass.

One good thing though, I'm still the same weight I was back in 82, whereas Kirk most definitely is not.... And there were a lot of bald heads in the, admittedly modest, crowd.

The saddest thing was when some drunken Pompey prat threw beer over Kirk, and he replied 'I don't need a bath'. To rehash 25 year old glories is one thing, but to get covered in beer?

A good night, for me at leat, but not one to be repeated in a hurry!! Our next night out is to see Macbeth at the Chichester Festival theatre....... a different 'Theatre' no doubt.
