Power supplies for 82 and snaxo

Posted by: Trevor Bennett on 01 February 2003

At the moment I am using the supercap for the 82 and a hi-cap for the snaxo but what if i used the supercap for the snaxo and got another hi-cap for the 82(that would be 2 for the 82).Any thoughts?

... and my question would be: Which component (the 82 or snaxo)) requires more power (and tighter regulation) that would benefit from the supercap? I would think the 83.

I've done the 82/hicaps/supercap and snaxo/hicap - but never thought of trying what you suggested.
Bear in mind you'll need a snaxo burndy £260 !!! - and i don't think the supercap/snaxo will work to well, it'll just highlight issues in the system hierachy.

I recently went snaxo/supercap (was hicap) - and so far do NOT rate the improvement as worthwhile.
All this said there's one way to find out, get the snaxo/burndy and try it out - be interesting to hear.

If you do intend upgrading at somepoint - My advice would be sell the hicap and 82, buy a 52, and power the 52/Snaxo from a single supercap (Ron Toolsie style), its in between a hicap and supercap in terms of sonic improvement.

In the longer run your better of with a nac52 - best VFM upgrade, maybe even before the cds2 (or cds3).

Yes £260 is alot but a dealer friend said i could get a old grey burndy for about £50 or borrow one to try.

I thought about doing that before with a Pre-fix[getting a second hand one]but my dealer asked Doug at Naim what he thought and he said it was not worth doing.

I know,i was offerd a good priced 52 last year, but decided against it (what a fool-i would'nt have to find a power supply for my Pre-Fix then)
