where can i get high quality downloads?

Posted by: boborange on 22 September 2010

Hi,

The last hifi i bought was an arcam alpha 3 amp and marantz cd52 and KEF speakers when at school; as you can see i have been out of the hifi world for quite a while. A new flat and time to improve on the ipod dock and the qute has caught my eye. Ive longed for naim kit since i was a kid and the size and features also impress the other half, however my ipod is full of poor quality downloads so was wondering where, apart from itunes, can i get top quality music and what would be the minimum requirement to sound good through a qute?

I want to start re downloading my collection before i get the qute and get frustrated with poor downloads.

Thanks in advance.

FYI HD Tracks only accepts credit card payments with American addresses...HOWEVER I discovered you can get round this outside America by paying by PayPal.

I have downloaded quite a few albums in 96/24 and am very happy with their quality.

The advantage of HD Tracks is a wider range of genres. Linn and Naim are not so mainstream in their offerings.

Is there any benefit in using 96/24 if I don't have a DAC ?

Or is it just a case of D/L a suitable player ?

I reckon to fully appreciate 96/24 you need a DAC that directly handles 96/24 rather than one that handles 96/24 by downsampling to 48/24.
