That darn Lingo

More info on the Lingo:

I tried the ferrite clamps to no avail. They certainly affect the sound - for the worse in my opinion. I tried 1-4 clamps on the power cord of the Lingo and Linto both together and separately. The effect is interesting but ultimately something was not quite right. I took the clamps off and was much happier.

RE: Conn 401/E - My local Linn dealer had never heard of it (they don't carry Naim) but ordered one in from the distributor (who apparently had to order it from the UK as well as none were in stock - not a high demand item I am sure).

Sorry I can't remember who it was that said they had ordered one recently as well (about two weeks ago). Is yours installed, yet?

I checked this morning to see who else had ordered the Conn 401/E.

Hi Bob (Atherton), did you have yours installed yet?

Paul,

Sadly not yet. It appears that Linn are out of stock of this item & are having to make one up for me! Obviously they don't sell a lot of these. My dealer has no firm date for delivery, but rest assured I will let the world & his wife know how I find the change.

FWIW I tried ferrite clamps on my Lingo lead about a couple of years ago & I also thought that it made things worse.

Bob.

If the Armageddon could actually play both 33 and 45rpm, I would possibly agree. Otherwise, I'm afraid not.

In addition I have yet to have it demonstated to me that the Lingo negatively affects Naim amps. CD players maybe - although I don't care as I don't have or need one.

The locking plug/lead connection of my LP12/Lingo has recently become damaged as a result of the lead accidentally being pulled. The result of this is that I think I may need a new lead if it can't be simply repaired. I telephoned Linn in anticipation of needing a new one to enquire about the price, and without knowing my other equipment, the chap on the phone stated that there are two types of lead, a standard one and a special one for connection to Naim equipment. The chap at Linn stated it was to prevent radio frequency interference ( I'm not sure if it's only needed if you suffer from RFI). I wasn't aware that this lead was specifically manufactured for connection to Naim, so I'm now looking at replacing my lead rather than repairing it, although unfortunately the standard lead is about £35, and the 401/E is about twice as much.
Also, I don't want to take the deck apart unnecesarily, so could anyone advise whether the new lead would need soldering in, or does it plug in? If it needs soldering I'll take it to the dealer

Cheers
Ade
