HDX Upgrade

Posted by: BernardG on 04 February 2010

Could Someone please explain to me why it is taking so long to release an update for the HDX?

I was on the beta programme for the update(December).
My installation worked perfectly except the Digilinx software doesn't recognise the playlists.

Are the software programmers up to the job or is Naim employing YTS students with no programming experience?

I don't want to rub up anyone the wrong way, but as I have said in a previous post.
"How hard can it be write the software if you know why you're doing?"

Hey Bernard, be happy, at least you've got the beta software which is 99.9% of the release. It's kept me happy anyway!
But I do wonder if it's down to Apple approving the iPhone app....

Perhaps the testing and debugging plus retesting phase is more complicated than is appreciated.

I mean, just think if they released it and a serious error showed up later?

Just think how it could damage Naim's reputation. Toyota is one of the best in the business - witness the damage being done to them at the moment.

Naim's caution is probably well founded in my view.

I have managed loads of software development projects and its amazing how easy it is to get to 99% complete and then spend just as much time again closing out the difficult 1%. Really frustrating!

I wouldn't be surprised if they are in this situation

The 1.5 software release will go out as soon as we are happy that it is stable - anyone that has been involved with software projects will know the issues involved and some of the replies above are pretty much on the button.

I'm very glad that the software worked perfectly for you and I can therefore understand why you would feel that the software was ready for general release however there have been many people involved in beta testing this software, some of whom have reported issues back to Steve Hopkins which have been looked into, identified, fixed and tested before we would consider the software to be of sufficient quality to "go final" with it.

We currently are verifying our release candidate build which is expected to be released imminently once we are satisfied that it is solid.

If anyone has any questions then - as always - please feel free to email me directly at phil.harris@naimnet.com and I will be more than happy to give you the most up to date information that I have available to me. We will of course be informing the dealers as soon as the release is available as well and we will also post an update up here too.
