Not really hi-fi related but I am sure there are a few Pink Floyd fans out there. Radio 2 @8.30 this evening - David Gilmour playing live. Should be good.

I guess a good many wish they had a Nat 01 & Galaxie for this one! I know i do.. the computer is making the best of it for me!
Wonder if he is going to play the whole abum in track order. Time will tell I guess.
Is it just me or do some of these tracks sound like Steve Hacket? (not the guitar work.. thats obviously Gilmore..) Love em both anyway, so I'm onto a winner with the album.

Just watched the gig on bbci....can't say it's making me want to rush out and buy On an Island...
Felt it was all a bit laid back and plodded along, even the more familiar older tunes....
Can't believe we've got to wait until bloody October for the Pulse dvd......
Good to see the old boy still has it in him though I guess.....if that was ever in question!!
Cheers,
Ali

Judging by its position at top of album BBC chart, a few people bought new Gilmour CD. I quite like most of it, but probably won't buy it as I nostalgically prefer his older albums/proper Floyd stuff.
I almost recorded show last Saturday, but decided it wan't worth it, and might look later to see if it's in BBC R2 'Play it again Sam' option for a few more days. If he had sung something not on albums I would definitely bother to check out BBC 'listen again' for real new stuff.
It was nice to see him however in '3 Men and A Boat'.

When asked what he was doing; he said:-
"I'm in the middle of making a gramophone record".
Excellent.
Unfortunately, I can't say the same about 'On An Island' from what I've heard of it - I won't be buying it.
At least I can fall back on DG's superb eponymous album from 1978.

Well - sorry to buck the vibe of this thread - I think the new one is great.

Simon - you are correct. On An Island is a real grower...proof that adults can make great pop music, even in their sixties. Yes, it's serene; a harking back to the era pre-Dark Side when the laid-back hippie ethos still held sway with the Floydies. If you enjoy tunes like "Pillow of Winds" and "Fat Old Sun" (and who doesn't?), you'll dig OAI.

Fat old sun - sounds like Neil young on valium to my ears. I've listened to a few tracks and found them plodding and uninspired at best. At worse just plain mediocre and a waste of money. Frankly I can't even be bothered to play the remaining tracks. Very disappointing.

I bought the album at the weekend and to me it is a very 'Sunday Morning' type of record; ok to listen to while reading the paper but nothing more than that. It is perhaps a little too self satisfied and is very one paced.

After two weeks of listening to the entire album whilest on the way and back from work, I have to say it is a bit of a dissapointment to me. I was hoping for something, well a little more powerfull in places & to have some tracks that I at least want to hear again & again. It's not happening with me so far.

In the fullness of time, when this album is lauded as a classic, you'll think of me. Sheesh...
It is very Sunday morning listening though, I agree. Whets my appetite for Roger Waters' upcoming "return to rock" album.
