Crosby and Nash

Just watched them on BBC3 in concert from 1970. Wow!! made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. The harmonies were top drawer. The version of Lee Shore was just out of this world.
Tomorrow night it is Joni Mitchell from the same series. Can't wait.

Totally and utterly agree with you about Terry Reid a totally underrated talent. I have followed him since my youth in the 60's.
At last, a bit of credit for Tel. Yes, he sprang into my mind too, whilst watching the concert. A CRIMINALLY underrated British Gem. Seed Of Memory and River are superb albums.
Were you at Ronnie Scott's November 05?

Unfortunately not. The last time I saw Terry was Glastonbury in 71. Yep that long ago with David Lindley etc in the band.

Aah yes. Wasn't that was the one that was included in the film. Tel had a large furry object on his head and a very long ciggie sticking out his face. Linda lewis on backing vocals.

I saw him around 1986 at Richard Brandson's then venue at Victoria (can't remember what it was called. Terry had a what seemed to be a pick up band and was playing songs that ended up on the Rogue Waves album, not one of his finest. The best bit was when he did a few solo accoustic numbers, really showed him at his best. There is some very good footage of him on You tube taken at Campden Town last year, he has lost his youthfull good looks, and seemed to be dressed as Lawerence Olivier out of The Entertainer, must musically the boy is as powerful as ever.

I've been a huge fan of CSNY, CSN, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Hollies, and their various solo albums since day one. And each of CSN&Y's first solo albums were brilliant: Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name, Nash's Songs for Beginners, and Stills' and Young's eponymous albums, as well as the first eponymous Crosby/Nash album.
Heard them live several times back in the day, always a treat.

Diode, wasn't it actually called "the Venue"?
Posted on: 19 January 2007 by Diode100
Chris, Yes I think you must be right, it was called The Venue, a sort of musical supper club, along the lines of Ronnie Scott's. When it closed down it became a Texas Pancake House, or something similar. Oh, and it was late 70's, probably 1979, rather than mid 80's, the mind plays tricks down the years.

This growing old business is much over-rated!

Didn't actually know that the Venue was Branson's place. I saw Bobby Womack and what were a favourite live band of mine at the time The Climax Blues Band. They were outstanding. Always thought the place was a bit funny when you were sitting down drinking and eating being served by waiters/esses whilst bands wree playing. The waiters etc were apparently paid a shit wage and had to ply trade to get tips.

I saw them at Wembley in '74 with what was considered by themselves as the sellout period when they started playing Stadiums.

I was at that Wembley gig too ewemon. Seem to recall Joni Mitchell and the LA Express, the Band and Jesse Winchester were on the same bill. Was a pretty good gig as I recall, but not quite as momentous as I had led myself to expect.

Yeah I think sometimes old age tends to make the memories grow fonder of highlights in your life and stories tend to "improve". It was a good gig but I didn't think looking back it was any too special. Mind you I really like them but they are not one of my favourite bands. I just couldn't get into some of there stuff, suppose I should have taken some illegal substances before I went as it might have made me enjoy the gig better. Having said that I always preferred CSN or Crosby and Nash on their own. However strangley enough I love Neil Young.
