The Decemberists have done an 18 minute EP of the Tain. This is new news to me but recorded in 2004.

Intresting-I bought The Crane Wife this month and spotted this amongst the Decemberists back catalogue. Have you heard it?

Book Of Invasions and The Tain still get a spin occasionally at home.

I have only heard a couple of short samplers and read a review. As the Horslips album is one of my all time favs it was a shock to find another version.

I'm too much of a purist to even entertain the idea of listening to a cover of it. I bought it when it came out after listening to Alan Freeman play it on his Saturday afternoon show. I think it's great though, that someone like it enough to bring it back to life again after all these years.

To be fair I think The Decemberists have re-interpreted the story of The Tain as opposed to re-doing the Horslips version.

Hasn't this kind of thing happened before -

Medicine Head released DSOTM in 1972

Wasn't there another band who released DSOTM in 1973.

I suppose it is only the titles that clash

BTW I think Heavy On The Drum is better than DSOTM.

I've a copy of DUB Side of the Moon.

Blimey!!! Seen how much you'd have to pay for Horslips The Tain on CD?

Book price for Horslips' The Tain vinyl elpee (Oats MOO 5) is £15 - if you have to pay more for the CD then it's a rip off. Happy To Meet - Sorry To Part in it's octagonal sleeve is worth more £20.

It doesn't matter how good a record is - just how difficult it is to get hold of. Remember Marc Bolan's Midsummer Night's Scene is awful - one of his worst ever songs, but the original single still changes hands for £1,000.

There is a couple of copies of The Tain on Amazon UK for £9.99 and one for £150.
One for $50 on Amazon US.
