Incapability Brown?

I've been discussing this with friends for weeks. The dead end we always reach is - what now?

I think we've reached a point where we really have very little choice between the Tories and New Labour (I hate the term "New Labour", but in my rejection of the current government I've decided to take up using it), and as far as the Liberals go - I have no idea what Corporal Clegg even looks like!

We have a crisis, that's for sure. I cannot bring myself to vote Tory and I certainly don't trust Tory boy Cameron to have any backbone, so am hoping that maybe Peter Hain might come forward, or Michael Meacher who I have always respected greatly. I might even support Simon Hughes if he lead the Liberals.

I really don't know how we're going to get out of this mess, but Gordon Brown has turned out to be an absolute dead loss, and that's egg on my face as I expected great things, and said so. The reason that I can't see further than a new PM is that GB's credibility is just gone - there can't be any way back because there is too much ammo for the opposition now. They are like a dog with a bone with the election cock-up and that isn't even the worst of it.

He played in the shadow of Tony for too long.

I feel a rather sharp swing, but to where I don't know.

PMs "Never a frown with Gordon Brown" line is also a cracker!

When Tony was still Prime Minister I can imagine Gordon Brown the dark sulky one pressing Tony to quit so he can at last become Prime Minister. I can also imagine Tony never telling to Gordons face that he was simply not Prime Minister material. However Tony needed the back up of a good chancellor so he dangled the carrot and offered the job when Tony was ready to quit. Beautifully played by Tony.

Did anyone hear him on "Today" this morning? The man is obviously living in a parallel universe to the one I inhabit. Well, they say we get the leaders we deserve.

Did you hear Jacqui Smith on 5-Live yesterday? She sounded arrogant and dismissive generally and just quoted statistics when asked about anything very much. It reminded me of the aloof tone of the last few years of the Tory administration 10 years ago. The statistics she quoted were all about how crime is falling, and then it was pointed out that her figures referred to last year compared to the year before and not over a ten year term, whereupon she changed the subject.

We have gas & electricity bill increases to come this year together with more oil price rises, and water rates are set to rise too. Food bills are going up.
What I don't fully understand is why the British people never take to the streets and complain like the French do. Why do we accept this shit?

For the same reason that we queue in a reasonably orderly manner. We are very poor at complaining in general. We grumble to Olympic standard though.

Do the French subsidise gas and electricity cos they haven't had two massive price hikes in the last year?

'What I don't fully understand is why the British people never take to the streets and complain like the French do. Why do we accept this shit?'

I agree with the above sentiments, although the French have a high north African immigration population no way would they tolerate lax conditions as to benefits etc.. which England has towards immigrants from across the world. Some may argue that the England had the benefits from the English Empire but this has proven to be a double edged sword.

However on the positive note England has shown a tremendous good will towards immigrants and I suspect that statistically most immigrants would agree that London is one of the least racialist cities in the world, certainly less than Paris.

My Dad who came over to England during the second world war was most impressed by the relaxed coolness of the London population during an air raid. However on an allied parade he was very unimpressed how a Regimental Sergeant publicly scolded his own soldiers, treating them like animals as oppose to humans. However he had nothing but admiration for the British as compared to the Selfish arrogant French who managed to lose to Hitler in recpoird time...!

Jacqui Smith is totally useless and therefore quite ideal for our Government.

He's a f*cking useless, arrogant tosser who, like so many of his cronies, feel that if they tell us the sky is green and The Party and The Country are great often enough, then that'll do. And the UK is, I'm afraid, headed for the shitter for the next few years at least, partly because he seems to have done everything he can for political gain, or at least Brownie points, while treating (and fuelling the perception of) the public at large as cud munching, consumerist idiots addicted to borrowing to pay for their SKY+ and mobile phone contracts each month (rightly or wrongly), as opposed to doing the right thing by those he apparently represents.

Whether it's the complete incompetence associated with tax laws, as most recently witnessed by the 10p/nil rate band farce, which is merely the latest in a series of screw ups or taking borrowing and 'public' spending up to the hilt or selling huge gold reserves virtually to the day as the latest bull run began (which he felt he had to so as to keep The UK afloat) and putting us in the position where we have one of the weakest economies in Europe which is only going to get worse as house prices will fall by 20 to 30%, putting 2 million people into negative equity, with banks to scared to offer 'affordable' mortgages, while inflation is going to be at least twice the desired rate (and that's just the official CPI rate which they still insist on using despite it not including homeowner related costs), which means interest rates are now more likely to rise again, all of which adds up to rising unemployment, rising welfare costs (which we can't afford) and general economic chaos all around. And yet he feels he will 'steer us out'! C*cksucker. And what has he spent it all on?

Anyway I won't labour the point. But what have they ever given us in return?!

The aqueduct?

What?

The aqueduct.

Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah.

And the sanitation.

Oh, yeah, the sanitation, Reg. Remember what the city used to be like?

Yeah. All right. I'll grant you the aqueduct and the sanitation are two things that they have done.

And the roads.

Well, yeah. Obviously the roads. I mean, the roads go without saying, don't they? But apart from the sanitation, the aqueduct, and the roads--

Irrigation.

Medicine.

Education.

And the wine.

Public baths.

And it's safe to walk in the streets at night now.

Yeah, they certainly know how to keep order. Let's face it. They're the only ones who could in a place like this.

All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have they ever done for us?

Brought peace..!

I think I prefer the bloody Romans.
