Dynavector Amps

Posted by: Harris V on 30 November 2001

I would like to audition some non-Naim amps for my next upgrade but can't seem to find many opinions on Dynavector, mainly because I can't find a dealer that stocks them. I know some of you guys have heard them - so what are they like? I'm not totally keen on Naim speakers but would use with Naim CD and possibly pre.

One thing i would like to know is are they as fussy about supports and mains quality?

Ask Alex S. - he has been through this already. His opinion was that the Dynavector amps at a comparable price point outperformed the Naim offerings. Of course, that's his opinion and yours may differ.

It's also worth trying something a little unusual, like the Crimson power amps - these I have, chosen over a 250 amongst other things, and I have no hesitation in recommending them.

This is the Naim forum and now that Paul Stephenson is busy designing a Super Hi-Cap at my behest wink I have no wish to say anything unpleasant.

You could do a search - 'dynavector amps' - you'll get all you need and not just my opinions. If you want more of what I think then drop me a line.

You could do worse than read the review in the current Hi-Fi+ on the DVHX75.

Harris,

Grahams in London can do Naim, Dynavector and combined demos.

There are qite a few DV users around.. The ones I know who have bought them love them to bits. A different 'slant' on music than the Naims, but highly musical and captivating. They can be used in a mix of Naim/ DV or by themselves. There is a range to, of two preamps and two power amps, with a new preamp coming out soon ( L-300 ).

Try Grahams ( as David said), and reputedly they know there onions. Depending on where you live, Derek Whittington in New Audio Frontiers in Loughborough stocks them too...
