The 25th Day of December - Staple Singers

Posted by: Skip on 09 December 2007

Reissue of a 1962 recording. Released by Concord on the Riverside label, from the Stax Archives.

Even if you hate the idea of buying Christmas music, this is a great piece of work. If you were looking for a new one this year, better yet. Minimalist recording, as if the singers are all standing around the same couple of microphones. I guarantee, when you put this on at the Christmas Party, people will pay attention.

We got Respect Yourself on 45 earlier this year, and when we saw the 25th Day CD, just had to have it. Check it out.

I'll definately check it out - the Staple Singers seem to be practically ignored and forgotten about in this country and yet their music was and still is awesome - I just picked up a copy of the 'Soul folk in action' album and it's truly stunning - guaranteed to put a smile on your face after a hard days work. Recommended to anyone who likes their soul with a touch of gospel and Memphis style attitude!
