FLAC file extension
Posted by: TomK on 20 February 2004
I just downloaded some interesting looking Led Zep live stuff and it's got a file extension FLAC. Does anybody know what will play this? I downloaded WinAmp but it doesn't work.

First I've seen of this type so I hope this (Free Lossless Audio Codec) helps. It is part of the open source movement.

Tom,
for futher info look on the flac project page and then pay a visit to sourceforge the home of many open source developments and search (box top left) for "flac" or "audio", you should get a good few pages full of audio based development projects - some might be of intrest to you.

If you are able to find something that allows you to convert this format to something usable like .wav can you please post the link. I downloaded "flac-1.1.0-win" a couple of weeks ago, installed it and used it but it finds errors in every file I try to run it against.

I found this flac which has let me listen using Winamp5. At least that's a step in the right direction. Sadly though the stuff I downloaded turned out to be complete crap!

Did you see Charlie Hunter has his music on flac? Never heard of him but any one who can play an 8 stringed guitar (3 bass and 5 "normal" strings). Respect due.

Go here and head to their Download page for the application that you want. I have their Win/PC application and it works smooth.
Learned about it downloading Primus shows.
Cheers
Keith.

After a few bottles of Stella I'm past sensible surfing. I may want to rip this to either MP3 or WAV. Links if possible please.
