Just slide your 552 into where the 252 used to be and Hilary may never notice. If she says "that sounds better" just tell her you have cleaned the connections.

Are we going to see something special for his 10,000th post or one of his crap one liners. Who knows he may surprise us with one of his famous smileys.

Its a shame his Jaw thread isn't still running he could have made his 10,000th post on there!

Tell her you have polished the knobs and just upgraded the flash.

I tell you she will never know Big Grin

Jeezus H Krist, hungryhal, have you actually bought that bloody 552???? Eek

Nice one - should be able to slip it past the wife if your sneaky enought - the boxes are the same size as your 252/supercap2 - but the knobs are different though!! Big Grin

Congrats,

Jon

I have just faced the music with Hilary and am now in hiding while she watches Supernanny downstairs. I will need to be on best behaviour for weeks to recover from this one.

Let's just hope the 552 is as good in my house as it was at the Naim factory.

Oh dear Nigel...is this a case of a hungry fish in the dog house? Eek

Oh well, at least you got it over with, I'm sure Hilary will warm to the idea...give it a few days then see if she'll let you come back down the stairs Big Grin

I can report that the 552 is now happily installed downstairs and string to warm up. Hilary is also speaking to me again. A win-win situation!!

After only an initial listening I am absolutely amazed. The 252 is a great preamp, but the 552 is just so much better. On the Martins 4 album it's like the players are in the room. The guitars sound so real - incredible.

A funny thing about the 552 is that it comes in a brushed case - so it doesn't match the CDS3 or 300. It must be a marketing ploy to get users to buy the the 500 and no doubt the forthcoming 555). Still, it's very funky looking.

Its previous owner was using it with some rather dubious Isotek mains leads on the ring main, so now the hydra fed from the 10mm spur is in place, you an almost hear it cheer.

And I've sold both the 252 and supercap.

Glad your new purchase is settling in nicely - one thing I can't understand though: why would anyone want to sell a 552, after all, what can you upgrade to?

regards,

Tam

Good to hear you are listening to some proper music anyway Nigel, Im a big fan of Martin Simpson, I have seen him several times, he is fantastic. I can only dream of hearing him through such a system.

Are you a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan?- His remasters sounds great through even my humble CD5 Nait5

Stacey Kent is sounding wonderful too. I'm waiting till tomorrow to crank up White Stripes. I've not heard Stevie Ray Vaughan - I've always imagined him as some sort of heavy metal affair (which I can't stand) but I expect you'll tell me I'm wrong!

Neil

I expect you have worked out that the eBay 552 is at chez Halibut.

I was in the same class as Martin for several years at grammar school (quite a few years ago obviously !) - nice guy & a phenomenal guitarist too. Cool eh ?

I saw him about a year ago when he played a concert locally. If I recall correctly, he now lives in New Orleans - lucky man- fabulous music city..
