Dirk,

Nothing to do with the guy.

At least everyone on here knows who NB and polarbear is.

Identify yourself please.

Are you a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan?- His remasters sounds great through even my humble CD5 Nait5

Ah! a fellow SRV fan.

I have just about everything recorded by the great man. I believe the recordings could have been better in the first place but the remasters are excellent nevertheless.

Yes I have most of his albums, I plan to buy his box set (import) next week.

My dad has seen him play, all my dad said was that the hairs on the back of his neck were stood up throughout the gig -

Which of his albums would you recommend as a starter?

Nigel

Texas flood is a great album, make sure you get the remastered with extra tracks. Also, his Live from Carnegie Hall a very good album too.

His albums tend to be under a tenner these days too. Worth a try, I wouldnt call his music 'heavy', you may have to listen to it several times to appreciate what he does though.

Let me know if you try him out.

Texas flood was his 1st album too, dates back to 1983 I think.

I've been looking on Amazon - the only remastered one with extra tracks seems to be SACD. Is that right? Do you know if it's one of those dual layer ones?

Nigel

I looked on amazon for you before, and no the SA-CD is not the one which I referred to.
It is also very expensive that copy.

Your best bet is HMV IMO, you should find it there for under a tenner, ive had a quick look on the web but cant find much.

Good luck.

This is the album, but NOT the remastered with extra tracks.

I've just ordered it on the MVC website - remastered with extra tracks for £8.99 and £1.50 postage.

Thanks for the tip - this shows exactly what hifi is for - a means to an end, and not an end in itself.

Cheers

Excellent Nigel.

Let me know what you think.

I dont want to spend your money Nigel as from what I gather you have had an expensive week already....But have you got Jon Strongs album (linn label) - great music, and good recording too.

Its available on amazon.

I haven't heard of him - I'll keep an eye out for it. I bought the Kirsty MacColl anthology 'From Croydon to Cuba' this week - as well as the usual well known stuff there are some great odds and ends - highly recommended.

My CD buying is going to be a bit limited for a while I think!

The PFM site is a great place to buy and sell Naim stuff. I have sold a supercap, hicap and LP12, and last week sold my Supercap 2 in a couple of hours. I also sold 1000 LPs last year, often sending them out before receiving the cash. In every case the money arrived as promised and everyone I dealt with (and in some cases met) was exactly the sort of person you would like to do business with. Most of the members seem to frequent the Naim Forum. Even the Polarbear moniker has arived here.

He took his time didn't he.

PFM is a great place to buy and sell hi-fi kit, just ignore the twaddle going on in the discussion rooms.

I agree - this Forum is so much more civilised.
