well I got a result, 4 quid off ebay, an original plum label album with booklet.
Needs a good clean but I am chuffed!
Are any of you guys having luck with Ebays.

Bought a job lot of a 100 almums a few months back. Nothing out of the ordinary but at 41 pence each not bad value. Filled a big gap of 80's soul that I'd missed out on plus the odd album that I would never of considered otherwise(eg. Nazarath, Loud and Proud and Adam Ant, Kings of the wild Frontier)
My main gripe with buying individual L.P.s on eBay is the postage. I found a mint copy of Lou Reeds New York for 99p and paid a further £3 p&p!!

Well done!

Thats righ 2401019 on polydor.
It plays really nicely as well, unfortunatly the first track does have a bit of a pop or two at the beginning but otherwise it plays lovely.
The one down side I think might be the inner sleeve, its just a blank one with Plastic Bags Can Be dangerous on it.
I am not sure which one was original, another fagile I have had adverts for other music of the time on it.
Any ideas?
Just to piss you off the cover is in really good condition, deep colours and glossy.

I have purchased about 25 vinyl albums from e bay over the past eight months, and have experienced problems with about 25% of them.
However I have also had some good purchases, but overall I find it a bit hit,and miss.

IIRC you're other one is a US press, so it wouldn't surprise me if you had the ads on the paper inner sleeve. As for the best innner sleeves, I'm not keen on the plastic bag inside paper inner liners, over the years they can 'melt', for want of a better word, on the records and make for a very noisy pressing.
I put all my records in Discwasher VRPs, but others are fans of nagaoka inner sleeves.
Sounds like your Fragile is a nice one. Mine has the booklet inside, but has a stick on Knnnnn catalogue number, obviously one of the last Polydor pressings, before the Kinney Group, as it was then, started to distribute Warner, Electra and Atlantic around 1974.
btw, just to prove how sick I am, I have the Atlantic/Rhino remaster on CD, which is really nicely done and way better than previous CDs. Soundwise it approaches the vinyl but doesn't have the glorious warmth of the plum label pressing. It does, however, contain the Yes version of Paul Simon's 'America', which, to these ears is one of Yes's finest moments. The CD is worth it for that alone.

Peter that track was actually pulled from Yesterdays, a Yes compilation from way back when.
The copy I have is so flimsy though that it soon got knackered, I may try looking for it again.

Gary,
yes, America is on Yesterdays, but if IIRC that compilation is essentially from the pre Steve Howe/The Yes Album Yes. The Rhino/Atlantic remasters are a spinoff of the remasterings that have been done for the DVD-A's of the The Yes Album, Fragile etc, they might turn up on vinyl, who knows ? For the meoment I'm assuming that the version of America on the Rhino/Atlantic CD is a remaster compared with the version from Yesterdays.
Originally the song was on a sampler called the 'New Age of Atlantic II' or something like that from 1971 or 1972. I bought that sampler when it came out. I'm sure I sold it off along the way, I certainly don't have it now.

I am always gutted by remasters.
I remember America yes style lacking in weight (a bit like all Rush albums I have found)
All I want is to hear some real welly on it. Remasters always seem to inhance the treble even more (lets face it something naim systems don't need)

I have Classic Yes on CD which sounds OK from '94, and I bought the Rhino/Atlantic Fragile Remastering. It's a very nice package with the artwork ressembling as much as possible the original LP artwork. Soundwise, It's OK I think I'll have to go back and check, I can't say for sure it's not too trebly.
There are remasters that are a monstrous improvement over the original CD editions, a case in point is the Columbia Legacy remaster of Abraxas - Santana. Also, although you'll not be interested, Miles Davis 'Kind of Blue' on Columbia Legacy is excellent, better than late 80s & 90s vinyl. The King Crimson HDCD remaster 30 anniversary series are also very good. Another series that are very good are the impulse 20bit CDs of Coltrane, especially 'Crescent' (one of the most approachable of Coltrane recordings) this one has serious welly!
As for Rush, another of my favourites, look into Power Windows and Signals. My first copy of Signals was great, I wish I still had it, I have a canadian LP that is not that brilliant. Power Windows I have on original US pressing and it does not lack weight. But generally I take your point Rush can sound brittle for want of a better word.

Yeah. They've suffered more than their fair share of so-so production. It seems like such a waste.

I listened to The Rhino/Atlantic remaster of Fragile last night. True not a patch on the plum label LP, but for CD very acceptable, good frequency balance. The packaging includes a lyric booklet, including America,a s well as an essay on the impact of Yes and Fragile in the US in the early seventies.
Overall I'd say a nice buy for someone who desn't have Fragile on CD and is interested, but probably not essential.

Can you be more specific about the Fragile LP. I may have an original, only I got Roger Dean to autograph it for me. Is it worth anything?
Posted on: 11 September 2003 by Peter Stockwell
Generally the Plum label 'Fragile' is worth about £30. A Roger Dean autograph may be of interest to a Yes'o'phile.
