Arab Strap

One of my favourite bands.

Just wondered what you guys think of 'Monday at the hug and pint'?

I'm a tad disappointed in this one after the marvellous 'the red thread'.
I love the introduction of classical instruments on some tracks but the album seems to lack 'focus'.
Or maybe it's a grower?
Sleeve photography is a bit special though!

Also wondered if anyone has got Malcom Middleton's solo project '5:14 Fluoxytine Seagull Alcohol John Nicotine'. Worth a punt?

I agree with Alex - Middleton solo is outstanding. In fact, I prefer it to the 'Strap. Well worth buying IMHO.

That's about all the recommendation I need.
It's bought.

Alex,
Great stuff!
If you want some more Arab Strap I can wholeheartedly recommend 'Mad for Sadness','Philophobia' and 'The Red Thread'.

Nick,
The Strap are my favourite band at the moment, no question - and have been for the last 3 years or so. I like the new record, but haven't had the chance to play it all that much (yet).
Anyone who's interested in the band should definitely try and see them live, as they are quite simply superb.
Cheers

Simon,
Good to hear someone else on the forum appreciates the Strap. First got into them 3 years ago when I heard 'new birds' on an uncut compilation CD: it completely blew me away.

I've not managed to catch them live yet.
Having to content myself with 'Mad for Sadness' in the meantime.

I remember reading about an album of remixes (god forbid) but haven't managed to track it down. Have you heard it?

Hi Nick,

I've got most of their stuff including a few rare Strap songs appearing on compilations etc., but I've never, ever heard of the remix album. However, I'm quite prepared to believe one exists as its exactly the sort of thing they'd sneak out in limited edition vinyl or something like that.

Update: I've just done a quick check of their discography and can't see it. Shame.

By the way, arabstrap.co.uk is an excellent website and sometimes MP3s are available to download.

Cheers
Simon
