Pre-amp upgrade: 202+HiCap2+NAPSC Vs 282+FC2+NAPSC

Need some opinions (never a shortage on those.
)Anyone tried the above combo? Would a naked CDX2 be a good match with 282 (dealer only has a 202?) Or don't bother if one doesn't intend to add an XPS2?

Why do you want to try these two combinations?
Anyway, just go to your dealer for a demo.

I own a 202 and a cdx2. The 202 is Hicapped. FOr me, the 202 is the weak point and I would highly recommend a 282 as the 202 is a bottleneck. I am not happy with the performance of the 202 for various reasons, but my dealer assures me that the 282 will alleve my frustrations. The 282 is a different beast than the 202 with/without power supply.
my two cents...

Unfortunately, my dealer doesn't have a 282. I'll have to talk to him and see if he can get a loaner so I can compare.

Hey Achandoke,
What amp are you using? I would be interested in hearing back from you when you have heard a 282 and compared the two.

Timster,
Does he have a 252 or something else? I think the 282 is where Naim takes off. I will be saving for a 282, but until then, its the 202/Hicap for me. Many people on the forum have indicated that a bare 282 is superior to a 202 with Hicap in various discussions.
Tennis Pro:
I own the new 250. I needed the extra brunt of the 250 because my speakers are power hungry.

Achandoke is right. 282 is an excellent preamp. It's much better than 202.
If your speakers are not difficult to drive it's not a problem to start powering the 282 from the amp.
Here you have many upgrade options. In the future when you upgrade the source you can add a hi-cap or two and finally a super-cap.

The 202 is the successor to the 72/102 and all 3 are good premamps.
However they are not in the same class as the 282 or 82, which are much better preamps.
The flatcap is not an option I would consider with a 282.
It requires a hicap or even better; a supercap.
For me a 282 really requires the supercap before you hear what its true capabilities are.
As for the CDX2, the 282 is good enough to get the best out of it, if used with a 282/supercap.
The limitations of the CDX2 are also highlighted, when compared with the CDS range of players through the 282.

I once ran my 82 in my office system as CDX/82/NAPSC/110. It was great! Yes, power supplies will make it better (in the case of the Super-Cap: much better), but the 82 is no slouch, even when powered by a mere power amp feed.
