nVi problems

Having been a Naim "fan" for many years I decided to purchase an nVi a couple of months ago. In terms of picture / sound I am really pleased but unfortunately I am currently on my 3rd nVi in 2 months.
The first one "locked up" regularly when playing DVDs, the second one worked for about 2 weeks and then developed vertical lines across the picture. The latest one has been working for about 2 weeks but I recently had a couple of occasions where when I have switched on a source (Satellite) I have had a message "System Error" please turn off and on again.
Is this the start of the third one going wrong? Has anyone had similar events with their nVI or can give me any suggestions as to what is going on?

System Error normally happens when our software doesn't get a responce back from the DSP board after a pre-defined period.

What firmware are you running? see here on how to obtain it (and what is the current version(s)).

I would suspect either a fault or you are running firmware older than the current version (which can suffer from this if you power up to a digital input sometimes)

Firmware is c02-13. Is this the latest?

If not I'm amazed as the nVi came from Naim only 2 weeks ago.

That is the latest I'm afraid...sounds most likely the DSP board is faulty then.

I would suggest return the unit via your dealer.

I was onto my 4th n-Vi last year and decided to take a refund and purchased an Arcam Solo Movie (about 6 months ago) No problems since

dhindley, how does your arcam compare with the n-vi for sound and picture quality

john R1, in short very favourably. When my last nVi went wrong, my dealer loaned a nVi and the arcam for about a week, so I was able to do quite an extensive comparison. In the context of my particular setup (a pioneer 43 inch plasma, KEF satellite speaker and a REL sub) it was virtually impossible to separate the two. Both are in a different league to a Denon av amp and DVD player I had previously owned. Where the Arcam really won the day, was its ability to handle switching between HD and SD channels on Sky without the sound dropping out (one of the nVi's remaining issues at that time)

dhindley, am on my third n-vi at the moment witin about 18 months, on this one the sound drops out for a few seconds if i switch from sd to the bbc hd channel on my v+box, not sure if its only when the hd channel is broadcast in true dd 5.1 as the n-vi switches from pro-logic 11, anyway thanks for your reply.
