Dear Likeminded types,

I am thinking of buying a Jeff Traugott acoustic guitar in from the USA as they are pricey $30,000,i know i will have to pay some duties,do any of you know what this would be,and are there any other pitfalls to look out for.

Best Regards Dan

The rates of duty can be found on the Customs & Excise website. I brought in a National guitar from the US and declared it for duty. As I recall, the rate for electric guitars is higher than for acoustics. It's about ten percent of the US purchase price, then you also pay UK VAT on the total.
Don't forget to keep the Customs receipt (which is a scrappy little bit of till roll) in case you want to sell it in the future, because Customs is well aware of personally imported expensive American guitars and often investigate any advertised for sale in "Guitarist" for example.

Eek 30,000 USD for a guitar? Eek

WOW!

Apart from the wallet damage, other pitfalls may include your visitors trying to play Stairway to Heaven on it in a drunken haze at parties...

Did I say...30 grand? WOW!
